What was your experience of periods before they stopped?

If they were irregular, for how many years?

Did you feel more unwell with them before they stopped?

And how old were you when they stopped?

Lots of my friends my age and younger keep missing theirs but I feel like mine are going on forever Sad

My cycle used to be regular, 28 days, but since late 2015 it started varying between 30 days and 22 days, last couple of years they've been 22-25 days. Will it ever stop?! I'm nearly 49.

I’m 54. Still going. The last couple years they’ve been creeping closer together, 21-25 days, and just the last couple months now coming every two weeks but only lasting 3 or 4 days. They’ve got to stop soon, surely!

Fluffythefish · 17/09/2020 12:36

I'm 55. Had two periods in Jan/Feb 30 ish days apart. Then two in August/Sept 30 ish days apart. None in between. Do I buy any more sanitary products? (probably). Also in the year before when I was getting them 15 days apart then skipping a month I developed period migraines. menopause just keeps giving - it really is menopause rather than menostop in my case!

I started periods at age 14 and menstruated every 35 days, no period pain. They stopped age 49 after being erratic for a year, but no sweats, brain fog etc. Its not necessarily doom and gloom!

peachescariad · 17/09/2020 12:51

54 now...periods started to go slowly erratic 10 years ago. Got more erratic as I got into late 40s....stupidly heavy and could go 2 weeks to 3 months between periods. Had bloods taken at 46 and peri menopausal. Had Merina coil fitted (unbelievably amazing). Removed 5 years later and zero periods since.

allinadaystwerk · 17/09/2020 12:56

I'm 50, had 4 sporadic periods this year so far, last one lasted 10 days!
Before that regular as clockwork every 28 days. I am so done with periods

Giggorata · 17/09/2020 13:05

Regular, agonisingly painful, and stopped as though switched off at age 50. Hooray!
Menopause was a breeze, too.

  1. Periods just stopped. A year before they had gone from 28 days to 21.

That was it. No symptoms at all.

45 all hell broke loose, it was horrible/horrific, symptoms you would never even know existed. 50 now and on HRT largely thanks to this board. All well now.

First few years after periods stopping fine. It takes a few years for lack of Oestrogen to truly hit IMO.

picklemewalnuts · 17/09/2020 13:15

Mine got heavier (though I had a fibroid) and closer together.
Then I skipped one. Then another. I've twice gone 9/10 months between cycles. Was devastated when it came, thought I'd finished.

There was nothing neat and predictable about it.

Iwasonceabrownie · 17/09/2020 13:30

Periods just stopped, I was 45. No hot flushes, just a bit hot at night that's all. I was incredibly lucky I think.

Mrsjayy · 17/09/2020 13:34

Well! My cycle went down to.21ish days then I didn't have a period for 5 months (I felt fantastic) then BAM last month I got a period, so god knows what's happening.i just want them to stop, I'm also 49.

hopeishere · 17/09/2020 13:51

I'm nearly 50 and mine are still regular but I was bleeding for 25 days with the last one Shock.

I'm going to get a mirena.

Abraid2 · 18/09/2020 11:27

Appalling flooding and then gaps of up to 11 months (!) before I had a few very small periods. The last one was just after my 54th birthday.

THey started again when I went onto continuous HRT and I have had investigations to see whether I have a polyp as they should have stopped after the first six months or so.
