Wondered if anyone had any experience of this, perhaps the mini pill as that seems recommended in the over 40s. Thanks. Mirena out sue to past surgery etc but had in the past

You can take the combined pill now up to 50 as long as you are a non smoker and otherwise fit.

Thanks. I'm wondering if anyone else was taking it during their 40s and how they found it. I'm hoping stopping periods might be good. (it did this in the past when I tried it) but a little concerned it might cause depression. We'll see. i'll try it a couple of months and go from there.

It's the mini pill not the combined one.

Sorry I was recommended the mirena which has been fine, my nurse practitioner advised me that oral contraceptives weren't advisable at mid 40's

JinglingHellsBells · 07/09/2020 16:46

she's incorrect there @movingonup20

The RCOG - shown here in this extract from their website with the FRSH- says up to age 50 .

UKMEC states that guidance supports use of CHC up to age 50 years if there are no medical contraindications to use. Progestogen only pill may be continued beyond age of 50 years but the UKMEC cannot advise on individual circumstances.

The CEU guideline advises that contraception is not required after age 55. For further guidance, please refer to the FSRH guideline on Contraception for Women Aged Over 40 Years: www.fsrh.org/documents/cec-ceu-guidance-womenover40-jul-2010/

View the UKMEC.

At the clinic they said either mini pill or combined would be OK at my age (few months ago)
