I'm only suffering 3 days each cycle - would you take HRT? Will it pass?

I've had a very odd few months seeing GPs and various specialists (neurologists, MRIs etc) trying to get to the bottom of what's wrong with me.

I'm at the end of that now and the diagnosis is 'migraine' (3 days around my period) and trapped nerves in my neck.

I personally think the whole thing is perimenopause (it all started at the same time), but the main problem is the 3 days around my period when I cannot function normally and am very very ill.

During this 3 days I feel adrenaline type rushes, anxiety, no appetite, smells of food make me feel sick, weak shaky legs, insomnia, feel I need to pee all the time (even when there's nothing there), very thirsty, dry mouth (yet don't feel like drinking the water), nausea, dizziness, depression (not clear whether that is just me being miserable at feeling ill or 'extra'). And the trapped nerve in my neck feels worse too and I struggle to sit comfortably so can only lie flat in bed. The trapped nerve also feels like it takes a few days to settle down after the 3 day illness.

Because of a combo of the trapped nerve and the 3-day 'migraines' I've had to give up my job.

I'm trying to decide whether to take HRT as I don't feel menopause symptoms for the rest of my (22-23 day) cycle.

I can probably afford to take another 3-12 months off work, but I'll need to go back eventually.

Have any of you experienced anything like these 3 day 'migraines'? And if so did they get any better or lessen in intensity?

ps My thyroid blood test came back as high T4 which on its own doesn't seem to mean anything, but may be an indicator of future thyroid issues, I'll need to be retested in 3 months time. So that is another consideration.

In all honesty, I don't think there is an answer to this, as it's case of suck it and see. Many women feel some of those symptoms you have and it's a result of progesterone withdrawal. I am on HRT and get a migraine- not all the stuff you mention- when I stop the progesterone and wait for it to clear out of my system and the bleed to start. I used to get that with a natural fertile cycle too.

With younger women in peri, sometimes the Pill can be used taken back to back so you don't get the low progesterone.

Maybe talk to a meno expert?
