Idiot question about contraception and menopause

At what point is contraception no longer needed? Is it simply a question of how long it is since periods have stopped (and if so is there a guideline)?

I believe it's 2 years without periods if you're under 50, and 1 year without periods if over 50.

I also believe that as we don't spend anywhere near enough money globally on working what the fuck happens to women when they go through the menopause to at least attempt to understand it and help the millions who suffer every fucking day this could be total bollocks.

Rock my menopause is a good resource, as is Menopause matters.

Above advice is correct.

If you have a coil or pill that stops periods earlier and thus don’t know, FSRH guidance states no contraception needed at 55 years, regardless of periods or not. Will try to find Link.

I agree with the above advice too.

I really wish there was more awareness about the menopause and the years leading up to it so that women know what to expect. It's such a major part of our lives and we all go through it yet it's still often seen as a taboo subject.

It's great that there are forums like this where women can talk about how it is, and the online resources mentioned above are really helpful too.
