I'm 49 and have regular but heavy periods . I write down the day my period is due and every month my period arrives on that day without fail . It's very heavy and I've needed to replace some iron but sort of expected at 49 I thought.
GP ran some tests and my FH came back at 45 . Now he explained that the result would be dependant on the day in my cycle but that with a result of 45 I was well into the menopause if not out the other side ?
I'm starting HRT Monday which I'm quite positive about and I never imagined having such an amazing GP .... he has literally spent 2 half hour appointments going through my options and seeing me again monthly until symptoms have settled .
Amazed how much the vaginal pessaries have Improved my bladder irritably and sex life .
I don't have flushes but literally cannot stand any form of heat and have the window a open everywhere . Ive always put that down to my blood pressure .
Lastly my bones / joints and fatigue .
I have arthritis and have been shocked how bad it's got in the last 3 years when quite possibly this is a menopause symptom ?
Any way will my tiredness and bone / joint stiffness ect improve on hrt do you think ?
Will this help shift the dreaded tummy I've developed this last couple of years ? I know I need to exercise more and eat less but I feel so frumpy all of a sudden and think I'm expecting too much from this HRT .
Would appreciate hearing how hrt affected / helped others .
TIA

First, great you have a good GP, but secondly, FSH tests are unreliable- NICE says not to do that test because it's unreliable. It gives a snapshot on the day only. So, TBH ignore the reading and go on your symptoms. You can't be 'on the other side' (post meno) as you still have periods.

I have a great gynae (world renowned) . He did do a blood test at one point BUT it wasn't for menopause and like you it showed I was post meno- but in fact I had periods for another 18 months. He laughed and said it just went to show how useless the test is.

All your symptoms should improve with HRT. But the tummy needs fewer carbs and more exercise!
