How long between stopping progesterone and withdrawal bleed each month?

I am on my 5th month of HRT. Patches 50 mg plus progesterone (utrogestan) for days 14-28.

This time I was on holiday and forgot the progesterone maybe 5 days out of the 14, but not consecutively. But I wasn't great with it.

Last progesterone was last Sunday and haven't started withdrawal bleed yet. I think it was sort of Thurs/Fri ish in previous months.

Can anyone shed light?

Just checking- your patch is estrogen only is it?
Two possible reasons:

1
It is possible you have messed up your cycle by forgetting to take it for 5 days (if you had forgotten for 5 consecutive days you would probably have bled soon after that or spotted.)

Normally you would expect to bleed on the 3rd or 4th day after the last Utrogestan.

2
You are taking quite a lot of it - 15 days- and the guidance says 12-14 days (some women only take 10 days with dr's advice.) That amount may be keeping the lining thin and nothing to come away.

BUT most likely reason is your cycle has gone awol as you missed 5 days. Bleeds start when the progesterone level falls - if yours has been stop and start, it might not happen this time.

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells
Yes patch is oestrogen only.
Periods have always been short and light, in peri very scanty.

My prescription says 14 days but do you think I should vary it?

Ive been having joint pain for the last 6 months and just started on Femostan 2/10 as my Gynecologist thinks its menopause related. It's very bad in the morning... ankles and knees stiff making it difficult to walk till you loosen up. Is anyone having similar experiences?

JinglingHellsBells · 09/08/2020 07:56

@BwanaMakubwa No, you shouldn't vary it. But the leaflet does say for between from day 14-26 so you are taking more. www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/352/smpc

@Sarkyscorpio68 Maybe start a new thread of your own because this one is about a different topic and no one will spot yours.

@JinglingHellsBells
I just realized something else.

I had estrodot 2 patches a week 50mg for the first 3 months, but this last month I have switched onto a different one as the pharmacy couldn't get the estrodot. It's a week long patch,
50mg still, possibly evorel - oval shaped. I wonder if switching from a twice weekly to once weekly patch and different brand could be making the difference?

Estraderm, not evorel.

Thanks!

..and it's actually called progynova.

It won't make any difference - it's still estrogen as a patch.

The no bleed is because you have not had a constant dose of proegesterone. The lining comes away when there is a big drop in blood serum levels. I wouldn't over think it- just follow the right regime this cycle.

Longer withdrawal bleed

Hi all
got a course of medroxyprogesterone twice a day for ten days from doctor due to abnormal uterine bleeding. All other checks ok, think it is cerazette that’s messed my cycle up to begin with as was on & off it during this year. Stopped the course got a withdrawal bleed 3 days later but am still bleeding 7 days later, not heavy maybe two teaspoons per day. Anyone else had a longer withdrawal bleed

thanks 🙂
