Is this right ? Gynaecologist and Peri

I’ve just had a telephone appointment with the gynae at the hospital . I was originally referred because I was bleeding between periods . I had a scan that was fine and anyway This has now stopped . But .. I now have been having terrible pms symptoms that are ruining my life and making me dread that time . So I bombarded her with what that entails :
Anxiety
Irritability
Tearfulness
Tiredness
Migraines
Night sweats
Aching hips
Palpitations

She said HRT is not what I need because my periods are still regular and to go back to my g.p with these symptoms , possibly up the dose of my antidepressant ( been on half a tablet for years )
I have felt for years that my hormones are the culprit for migraines etc and now they are causing me more problems . My hair has gone thin and I’ve suddenly got wrinkles . Surely this is perimenopause . But the how can my periods still be regular ?

Oh dear- she sounds old school and not up to date.

Have a read of the website of Dr Louise Newson where all of this is covered. I left a link earlier this week and it's in a post maybe around 10 threads down?

Lots of women have periods in peri. Someone on here called @Emerald13 is young and in early menopause and has regular periods but is also using HRT.

Sadly, not all gynaecologists are experts in menopause.

This is an HRT link but her site is full of useful info.

She is totally wrong. I have periods while in peri and have been on hrt for 3 years, which have completely saved my life and sanity. You need to find a different doctor who actually knows what she's talking about.

My friends GP was wary of using hrt during peri because of other side effects. She'd also started having irregular periods hence why she went.

Have they discussed other methods of hormonal meds such as mini pill or the coil?

Emerald13 · 06/08/2020 19:36

Hi! I am on hrt for 2 years now, I was 42 years old. I had regular but lighter periods but awful symptoms because of peri. I can live my life normally now and my only fear is about breast cancer risk. I don’t think that I will ever stop my hrt!

Oh dear , I hope my g.p will be a bit more clued up than this one then . Thanks for the link @JinglingHellsBells

My GP was the same, wouldnt even do a blood test as my periods are still regular.

Im all over the place with most of the symptoms mentioned in OP. I dont feel like myself and I certainly dont know Im going to manage the coming years until I come out the other side.

I’ve always found male medics far more sympathetic and helpful than female, who in my experience dismiss these sort of issues as they haven’t had such problems themselves.
