I had some blood tests done for thyroid, iron, liver, kidney, white blood cells and FSH levels. All bar the white blood cells have come back 'normal'. Tbh I was really hoping for a raised FSH level as I think I'm in peri-menopause.
I've been reading through threads and have so many symptoms:
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Irritability
Extreme and random anxiety
Insomnia (I'm generally awake from about 3am)
Severe indigestion
Rage, rage rage

However. I'm 43 and when I spoke to the Dr I had to push for the FSH levels one anyway. I know the focus will be on the white blood cells - but that just suggests an infection or stress. I'm very stressed at the moment (along with the rest of the country) which I feel could explain it. Also - I had my thyroid etc checked about 8 years ago when I felt like this and had the same results - everything normal but raised white blood cells. A cause was never found and I just got used to being exhausted/irritable/generally feeling under the weather. Then I got pregnant again - after 18 months of no contraception. I also never got a positive opk like I did with my first two children. I feel it was a last gasp egg really.
Sorry, I'm rambling. Anyway, I felt ok after the first few months of pregnancy, breastfed for 15 months. I now have a 21 month old and in the six months since I stopped breastfeeding have just felt worse and worse. I haven't had a single period since she was born, but do have the implant so could be because of that.
I don't even really know what I'm asking. Do I insist on trying hrt? Can I insist? Or do I just wait 18 months when they'll prescribe it anyway.
And I'm a bit gutted because if it's not menopause related then it could just be I'm a useless, irritable, sweaty, shouty bitch. 😔

Thanks for reading.

As a priority doctor will check cause raised white blood cells. Could you ask to go on the pill ?

midsummabreak · 09/07/2020 15:18

Sorry I missed you have implant. When are you due for removal of implant?

thisonebreath · 09/07/2020 15:45

Implant was put in end of 2018 so not due for renewal for about a year. They never found a reason last time for raised blood levels so I just felt like shit for another six years till I got pregnant.

Normal FSH levels do not mean you are not in perimenopause. I found the period repair manual by Lara briden very useful

Thank you, that's free to read on kindle unlimited so I'll give it a go.

Hi there @thisonebreath There's alot of confusion- all unnecessary- about meno, peri and HRT (and it's mainly down to GPs being a bit clueless in the main.)

Basically, if you have many symptoms of peri and your overall health is ok, the advice of specialists (meno specialists) is to start HRT and see if it helps- suck it and see.

All the palava that GPs go to sometimes is a waste of time.

I've been on HRT for 12 years through one of the top meno specialists in the UK/ world . I asked for HRT when I had hot flushes and he wrote a prescription. (I was a lot older than you.)

I'm not sure why you say do you have to wait another 18 months?

There is early menopause which is before 45 and premature menopause before 40. Both are medical conditions which require HRT for long term bone and heart health.

FSH tests are totally unreliable.

It sounds as if it took you 18 months to conceive that you had low ovarian reserves anyway and now they are gone.

You need to say that you have researched peri meno you have many symptoms and you want to try HRT.

Some younger women like you do get Qlaira which is a combined Pill and it works as a contraceptive too.

Have a read of the website of Dr Louise Newson and put early menopause in the search box.

Thank you SO much. I'll bear all of that in mind. I do genuinely believe it's peri. With the 18 months comment, I meant I'll be 45 in 18 months where my understanding was that hrt was more of a go-to. I could be wrong. My health generally is good, no underlying health conditions and apparently thyroid is fine, so I'd like to at least try hrt to see if it helps.

Thank you again.
