"If you go private you won't put on weight with HRT"

Is this true? One of my friends seems to think so - that you get a more tailored HRT that can be 'tweaked' if you putting on the lbs!

It was in response to my concern about putting on weight with HRT (I know the research says you don't but there are enough people on here who confirm that you do!)

That made me laugh. What an odd assumption.

I've had private meno treatment for 12 years and put on no weight but it's down to my own willpower and avoiding the cake :)

The research says there is no weight gain.
Using hrt does coincide with a time when men and women can put on weight anyway (middle age) due to lower metabolic rates.

Some hrt may cause slight bloating for a few weeks or bigger boobs, but this usually settles down.

The tweaking thing is limited anyway- there are not that many variations. Most women use the same things whether it's from a private dr or NHS. The only things to tweak are lower doses of estrogen, or maybe a slightly longer cycle then 28 days, using less progesterone. None of that would really affect weight. The only variation you can get with a private dr is a longer cycle (not the usual month) and they can monitor the lining quickly through a private scan etc if there are any concerns.

I got hrt from my GP and didn't put on weight.

I'm on NHS prescribed HRT for just over a year now. It has made no difference to my weight. I didn't even know that is a thing.

Just to clarify @Jjcrackers there is no difference in 'NHS' HRT and what a private dr can give you. It's all mainstream.
I pick mine up either at the pharmacy where I see my dr (private ) or at my local pharmacy.

The only difference is a consultant (and I think THIS is the important part- it's not about being 'private', it's the expertise of the dr) can spend longer with you at your appt and know which type of HRT is available.

Many GPs are not well versed in the whole range and just offer pills or patches.
