St Johns Wort

Spoke to GP & they are reluctant to prescribe HRT as I can't have my blood pressure checked. Main symptoms are anxiety, exhaustion, brain fog, insomnia. I have a Mirena IUD so my cycle is light & irregular anyway. They suggested black cohosh & St Johns Wort supplements. I feel fobbed off TBH but know that in the scheme of things I can hold on till the CV pandemic is over. I'm frustrated though. Age 49. Also stress incontinence, sweaty at night, headaches. Should I try alternative remedies or be firmer about getting help now? Anyone has good experiences with SJW etc?

sorry but you need to push your GP for hrt.
You can do your own BP check at home anyway with a £20 machine.
But more to the point, they could start you on hrt without a BP reading. Modern HRT made from plants does not affect BP anyway. It's not the same as the Pill - fa lower dose of estrogen and a totally different formula.

Your health is suffering more through the insomnia and anxiety than it ever would on a small dose of natural estrogen!

Just to put your experience in perspective, some of the UK's top meno drs are working remotely at the moment, prescribing new patients with hrt so if they can do it, why can't a GP?

SJW might help with mood a bit but not with all the other stuff.

Thank you @JinglingHellsBells - I completely agree. I've been holding on now for over six months, putting off bothering the docs, so was really discouraged with their response. Anyway, I spoke to GP again & she's prescribing the oestrogen gel as I'm on a Mirena coil. I really hope it helps with my symptoms. I'll hold off on SJW till I've used the gel for a few weeks so I can get a sense of whether it is helping or not. In your experience when might I start to feel different/better? Thanks again x

Result! That's great.

I found it helped my flushes and sleep within a week but maybe a month to see really good results. I was older than you- almost 53 when I started it.

Hope it works well.

Thank you - fingers crossed...

Can I just add that I started excercises for stress incontinence, and although I have to remember to keep doing them, I have been a lot better.

Yes - good point. I try to do my exercises when I boil the kettle. Technically my pelvic floor should be incredible by now...
