Is this menopause?

Hi, I'm 31 but have been having irregular periods, very low moods, mild hot flushes and haven't slept properly for weeks.

There is something more to the story than this but i wondered if those symptoms alone would point towards early menopause, I went to my GP (with the full story) who basically dismissed it and wouldn't even consider it an option. But want to know if i should try again with another GP.

Does anyone have any advice?

Have a look at the post below (now) on POI.

You might be having a very premature menopause. Your GP ought to be aware of this and refer you to a specialist gynaecologist. You need to insist that you see an expert for tests and treatment.

Obviously there may be other reasons but if for example you want children and don't have any, there are steps you need to take now.

Don't let this go- see your GP again and keep pushing and read the Daisy Network website ofr more advice.

Thank you for your reply.

I was just curious to see if the info I gave would be enough to warrant an investigation. The part I left out (because to me it would be blatantly obvious) was that I looked into donating my eggs a couple of years ago but wasn't able to due to low egg reserves. The specialist told me I would experience premature ovarian failure, and if I wanted any more children, to try within 6 months otherwise I would likey need IVF.

Luckily I do have children and we don't want anymore, I'm more concerned about the health implications.

I told the GP this when i went last year, but he didn't seem concerned.

I'll head over to the daisy network now, thank you.

You need a different GP! That's a pretty appalling story. How can they ignore low ovarian reserve and your current symptoms, and brush them off? Unbelievable.

I will book an appointment tomorrow, I'm not very insistent which is a weakness of mine, but I know something isn't right, so will definitely push for a referral to a specialist. I've already made notes of my symptoms and how I'm feeling, so at least when I go I can read them and not be flustered and forget. If not I'll have to find one myself.

I'm guessin because i've got children and they're only young, the GP has just brushed it off, although no other explantation was offered. It was over the phone so easier to wrap it up and end the appointment I think.

If your periods stop in your early 30s, you will need HRT up to the age of 50 at least. This is the standard treatment to protect your long term heart and bone health. It's replacement, like thyroxine, or other hormones for other deficiency conditions.

If your dr was aware of your egg donation experience, this must be on your medical notes so they need to get up to speed.
