I dont think I am on enough but my gp wont up the dose and infact wants me to stop using it as its been two years. Im 53. Hysterectomy two years ago. I get terrible joint pains and am very emotional. Im on 1mg(two sachets) every night. I have looked into it and I think I can go up to 1.5 mg but they wont hear of it. Does anyone know what dose is normal?

Thanks

I really don't understand your GP @EachandEveryone

Have you asked why you cannot increase the dose and what did they say? What medical reasons did they give you?

Your GP is useless. You can stay on HRT for life and this '2 years' thing is nonsense. GP is out of date.

Can you change your GP?

You might do better to swap the sachets for Oestrogel ( you will be using Sandrena now?)

The dose for gel is anything from 1 pump to 4 pumps.
Starting dose is 2 pumps= 1.5 mgs.

Honestly, these GPs out to be struck off.

As you have had a hyster, your risk of any side effects is practically zero.

You are on the safest sort of hrt (transermal) and women who use estrogen-only hrt have far less breast cancer than women in the population not on ANY HRT!

Looks as if your GP has never even bothered to read recent research or the guidance that ought to be part of their CPD.

Change your GP.

I know when they rang me they said i need to discuss tapering off with them! Iam on thyroxine and under the rheumatologist because of my joint pain. I totally think that if i am on the right dose of oestrogen the pain will ease. Yes its the sachets of Sandrena and i was put on that because the 1mg (twice weekly) patches had ran out. The pharmacy told me I should be on 1.5mg. I need to email the gp. What sources can I use?

Point 5 on this statement re, length of time on HRT

www.menopausematters.co.uk/risks.php

Risks of HRT compared to other factors.
See the green stats for estrogen only and how women have -4 cases per 1000 women (fewer than all women not using HRT.)

Currently there is no evidence of increased risk according to dose of estrogen.

Many forms of estrogen come in 2mg strengths (pill form and patch equivalent.)

The whole point of hrt is to use the dose that gives you symptom control!
