Patches to gel/tablets

Good morning all, I hope you are all keeping well in these strange times. Just a quick question from me..

Went cold turkey due to no patches being available .. 6 Months in my symptoms have returned with a vengeance! So having done a little reading up using the BMS link on here I plucked up the confidence to speak to the doctor. Sadly this time round my experience was not great, the doctor really had no idea what to suggest and actually tried to tell me to keep looking for the patches (there a serious shortage issue which I reaffirmed to him).!

So after much back and forth (him on google) the doctor prescribed Oeatrogel and Utrogestan capsules which was what I'd ask for and is a recommended alternative.

Anyone switched? Have any good / bad experience. I appreciate we are all different but I'm clutching at straws here. The night sweats are awful, now the hot flashes are back during the day and I really wish I could just walk round naked!! I'm 48 I believe this has been going on for 3 years but gradually got worse. The patches really seemed to work for me so I'm hopeful this combination works..

I have only ever used gel. At first I used gel and another progesterone, for several years, but for about 7 years I've been using gel and Utrogestan.

I'm happy with it and can't say there is any downside, other than the monthly bleed which I choose to continue with as taking Utrogestan daily (to avoid a bleed) didn't suit me.

You will probably be fine with it and the beauty with gel is you can alter the dose to whatever suits you, between 1 and 4 pumps a day.

I swapped from Evorel 50 and utrogestan to oestrogel and utrogestan about 7 months ago, and have never looked back.

In fact I ran out of gel recently and applied a patch as I couldn't get to the pharmacist to pick up my prescription, and was alarmed to have really sore boobs for the entire time it was on. So it wasn't until I tried that patch again that I appreciated how much better I feel on the gel!

And as Jingling says, the beauty of it is you can increase or decrease the dose as need be. I've only done this a couple of times so far but it feels good to have the option.

Hope it works well for you too.

@JinglingHellsBells quick question.. when taking the tablets on days 15/26 do I not use the gel? I'm reading conflicting stuff and thought you'd know!

JinglingHellsBells · 30/06/2020 12:30

All HRT is estrogen every day.

I made the same swop over six months ago.
I did feel a little dizzy and the utrogestan made me sleepy at night which was a good thing.I felt a little drowsy in the mornings.I stayed with it and during lockdown realised I felt great.
I had flushes, low mood, early morning waking and urinary urgency all sorted out with my new meds after ovarian cancer and bladder cancer were ruled out due to family history.
Good luck with it all.
