Early peri/Progesterone intolerance

Looking to hear from anyone that has been in the same situation as me? I'm 45 and after 5 years of being fobbed off by my gp saw a specialist menopause gp who diagnosed early peri and progesterone sensitivity. I am to take 4 pumps of gel, is anyone else on this amount?
It seems my lifetime of mh problems has been due to this and it gets worse as you head to menopause. I am on anti depressants too. Thank you for listening X

Does your dr suggest that progesterone intolerance is the same as PMS?

Do you mind saying who you saw?

On top of the gel have you been prescribed micronised progesterone or any of form of it, as you can't have just estrogen if you still have a womb.

Hey not in the same situation re menopause but am also “sensitive to progesterone “ whatever that means , currently in my “ I hate everything” pms week 😓 also have never been able to take any form of contraception because it sends me into a massive depression within days . Sigh.

Iv found St. John’s wort to help well with low mood Have also started evening primrose as heard that can also help assume you mean you are on estrogen gel so if you do decide to take any supplements or anything maybe just double check that you can

@clumsyduck Evening primrose has no benefits for hormones- it's been researched the RCOG (Royal College of Gynaecologists) produced a leaflet on what helps and doesn't and it doesn't. It's only good for breast pain during the 2nd half of a cycle.

clumsyduck · 22/05/2020 14:15

Oh thanks didn’t realize , am at the point were il try anything I see suggested haha because my moods are ridiculous ! Like I can literally be fine and then the next day wake up angry miserable and hating pretty much everything and sure enough it’s always that point in my cycle !

Sigh . At least my boobs might stop hurting tho Smile

Jingling - I think the pms, caused by surge in Progesterone is then exacerbated by Peri.
I take Menopace but to be honest it hasn't done a thing for me. I also do yoga and mindfullness too. I am worried trying it because of bc but also excited as I may have a chance of some mental peace :)

@Mindfullness Question is are you using HRT as in progesterone with your estrogen (which is a must) or are you being treated for reproductive depression maybe by Prof Studd?

Mindfullness · 23/05/2020 09:55

Hi Jingling I am on the combi of gel and Progesterone from day 17 to 28. I am being treated for early perimenopause. I did pm you with gp name :)

Sorry- I posted before I 'd spotted your PM!

NoHardSell · 23/05/2020 10:09

Isn't your age normal peri rather than early peri?
I'd be interested in how you are doing on the gel. I use patches but wonder if I might do better on progesterone gel.

Mindfullness · 23/05/2020 12:55

I think it"s because I have having the symptoms for 5 years!

Hi OP, I have recently been diagnosed with similar after seeing a specialist hormone consultant for early peri symptoms and potential progesterone issues which I’ve prob always had. The plan for me also is to take 4 squirts of gel to stop my cycle and I have Mirena coil.
I’m only up to two blobs so far as feel nauseous and groggy and a bit up and down whilst the dose settles so taking it slowly.
I wish you luck and that it works for you x

Mindfullness · 23/05/2020 20:07

Hi Ceetee23
That's interesting, are you the same age as me? I did think 4 pumps was a lot? I can't start yet as need to come on my period. I have the body identical Progesterone tablets too x

I’m 41 but had ever increasing symptoms for the past few years. I eventually went to a specialist hormone clinic privately. 4 pumps is a lot but I think the younger you are the more you need and also they said to me the plan was to override my cycle so no fluctuating hormones which apparently 4 pumps does.
If my Mirena is not working out they did suggest I have progesterone similar to yours I think.
Hope you get on ok with the gel. As I said I felt a few side effects so am going slow but I think others are fine so just see how you go. Good luck! X

Ceetee23 · 23/05/2020 20:51

Certainly ring true when you talk about lifetime of mh issues. Took me a long long time to realise things were cyclical and had years of the pill making me feel pretty bad too, post natal depression twice etc. Did hormone diaries for the consultant and there’s such a pattern. My issues are when my hormones fluctuate a lot in my cycle so in peri that’s happening a lot more.

Mindfullness · 24/05/2020 19:27

Thanks ceetee, I just want my period so I can start. I have always had pmt but it has ramped up a gear the past years. I've tried about 7 anti depressants, ended up having a break down last year and am now on a new type that are taking the edge off. I'm willing to try anything at this stage. Please let me know how you get on x

Likewise let me know how you get on too. I’ve only been on the two pumps for just over a week so I’ll leave it another week or so then see if I need to go up another pump. I really do sympathise as the hormones take over your life don’t they. Could be the key for both of us. Here’s hoping!! Keep in touch x

Mindfullness · 25/05/2020 15:12

Thank you and like you think I will work my way up. It could be and how sad if we have suffered all that time for nothing 😢
