Does anything actually help with night sweats?

47 and been having night sweats very occasionally for last couple of years but recently every single night (and no, I don’t have Covid19).

Think I’ve probably been peri menopausal for a while but am on 4th year of Mirena so periods pretty much non existent anyway.

What has helped your night sweats? Feel like I’m never going to have a whole night’s sleep again.

Get HRT, there's no reason to suffer like this. It is a lifesaver.

RoseyLentil · 25/04/2020 09:39

I've never had them really bad but maybe woken up 3 or 4 times a week on average. Over the last two years I've reduced my coffee and alcohol, lost 8 stone, and become more active- walking, hiking, gardening and just recently yoga. Hot flushes and night sweats pretty much gone 👍

I agree, HRT is a lifesaver but until you can get to a Dr perhaps try some Menopace type vitamin tablets, they can be helpful, supermarkets do their own brand versions too.
Do not take them on an empty stomach, unless you want to reenact a scene from The Exorcist!

Thanks. I’m cutting back on alcohol and trying to keep caffeine to mornings only and have upped my exercise during lockdown.

Think when things return to normal I may look into HRT.

Now off to google Menopause vits.

Hrt

Why not just get it now? Gps here are so quiet they are getting bored

Wildernesstips · 25/04/2020 10:07

Really @DeathByBoredom? Maybe I’ll give them a ring next week.

I was just chatting with a GP yesterday. His practice was so quiet they are going home early (obviously still leaving one GP in, but taking it in turns). I think he'd welcome something to do Grin

HRT was the only thing which helped with night sweats and hot flushes - for a short while after I started it, I’d get what I’d call the ghost of a hot flush - really faint sensation of one which would go in a few seconds - but this thread has reminded me I haven’t even had those for months (been on it a year)

Hagisonthehill · 25/04/2020 13:56

HRT,definatly
I got a wool duvet as well, hot but less sweaty.I tried diet, giving up alcohol, herbal remedies then gave in.If you have a Mirena you just need the oestrogen gel.

Wildernesstips · 25/04/2020 16:19

@Hagisonthehill I have a wool duvet too, and it’s quite a light one.

The nice thing about these duvets is that they are easier move aside and back when it gets too much.
I have a Mirena and gel and sleep better which makes everything else easier.I was waking constantly before either hot or cold after chucking the duvet or needing a wee or soaking with sweat.Happily no longer happening and able to drink wine hot flush free.
I did have to try a few types but found patches fell off but gel is quick and easy and makes you feel like you again. Also protecting my bones, libido and better hair!
