heavy bleeding with strong period pains after 20months meno

Has anyone had similar (and found out it was not serious?) I had some spotting a couple of days ago, a bit more each day. Today it is a bright red and heavier with bad period pains (I'd forgotten how bad they used to be.)
Don't want to bother my GP if this is actually quite normal. But when I look it up online, it sounds ominous.
Taken 2 paracetamol and 2 co-codamol left over from a foot injury and so far none of them have lessened the pain at all.

Yes, I did. Had a hysteroscopy and a biopsy. All fine. Then had another period and nothing since. Was told it was “just one of those things” by one doctor. Another one told me it was because I was fat.

Because you were fat? Seven years of medical school to come up with that gem? What was the factual medical basis of this? (I'm fat btw.)

Said that oestrogen was stored in fat and this caused it.

@ellanwood You do need to see your dr or phone them whichever way they are working.

They work on the rule that any bleeding more than 12 months after the last period needs investigating and normally you would be seen within 2 weeks for a scan.

In women who have an early menopause (before age 40/45) ovarian activity can resume some months or years later.

BUT post meno bleeding is also a sign of other things, like polyps, or a thickened lining. The latter is a risk as it can lead to or be cancerous changes. Being overweight is classed as a risk for many women's cancers as fat produces excess estrogen.

You may simply be having a very final period, but it's important to have it checked. There is a 2-week rule which means you ought to get an appt for at least a scan in that time.

Good luck and try not to worry- might be nothing but needs looking at.

Thank you @JinglingHellsBells. Spoke to GP today and she has arranged for me to have tests at the local hospital. More nervous of picking up Coronavirus there than the tests.
I didn;t know oestrogen was stored in fat. Interesting.

I'm pleased you have got some response @ellanwood Yes, being overweight post-meno is one of the biggest risk factors for both breast cancer and endometrial cancer.

I really need to lose weight. Blush
