HRT Question

I'm 51 and had the merina coil for the last 5 years up until last August when I had it removed as I wanted to see where I was naturally with my periods (I'd had the coil fitted to stop really heavy periods). Since it's removal I have not yet had a period which I am delighted about. Anyway, suffering from memory loss, foggy brain, aching joints, hot flushes etc so went to the doctors and have been prescribed Estogel and Utrogestan 100 capsules.

I am really shocked that by taking the Utrogestan it looks like I will get a period - really? But, my little label on the pack says ONE TO BE TAKEN AT NIGHT - it doesn't say I need to take a break ….. so I can pick your brains …...

Can you take it continuously?
Will that mean I won't bleed?

Thanks for reading!

Shame that the dr didn't take the time to talk you through this.

The leaflet tells you what to do.

There are 2 regimes

1 taking 12 x 200 mgs a month = a withdrawal period

2 taking 100 mgs daily ( or 25 days per month) = no withdrawal period

the leaflet will show that you can take it for 25 days out of 28 to allow for a light bleed if it happens (and may well not) but you can also take it every day and no bleed.

you might get some slight spotting at first because the estrogen and utrogestan have to work in synergy to be bleed-free and this can take a few weeks or months to settle.
