Night sweats - would you ask to be put on HRT?

I am 48 and in perimenopause. For the last few months, I have had night sweats every night. They are not as bad as for other women; for example, I feel as if I am steaming (not sure how else to describe it) but I don’t drench my bedclothes. The problem is that these night sweats are very frequent; last night I must have had at least ten which means I didn’t sleep much at all. Disruptive sleep is an issue as it is affecting my work and my mood - it reminds me of my baby rearing years!

Would HRT work and is it worth asking for this kind of treatment even when the sweats are not severe? I hear much worse stories from other women. On the other hand, I know many of you are against HRT and I must say I am not sure I understand why - maybe this is something I need to read about more?

I have MS. Interrupted sleep was a massive problem. My first attempt at HRT just added to MS fatigue so I gave up. But the interrupted sleep was pretty awful so I tried again.
Current prescription- which as a pain in the arse to get because of HRT shortages- has made a clear difference.

Hi.

I would definitely try HRT. I am on it and its helped me enormously. My night sweats were awful and I felt like a sleep deprived zombie.

The problem is that your estrogen levels are depleating. Estrogen is hugely important and when we start to see the levels drop it effects all of us in different ways - the best way to combat this is with HRT.

Liz Earle has a brilliant set of Pod Casts on this - and she talks about the menopause a lot - she is a great resource and I will be forever grateful for listening to those Pod Casts - they saved me!

(You can take HRT during peri-menopause as well )

I hope the night sweats ease off for you - don't suffer unecessarily...book an appointment today!

I use Evorel patches and they really help. A lot.

When you ask for them, make sure your GP knows about your cycle, and the difference between sequi and conti. Mine f*cked it up at first and I've heard similar stories on here.

It really helped me. Still get the occasional one - but it's nothing like as bad. Also - wool duvet - helped me regulate better.

Hi there, i am on HRT and it helped with the nights sweats enormously. However, in the early stages, I tried sage tablets (from Amazon) and the were brilliant at helping with hot flushes. Took them for nearly a year before I had to switch to HRT because the sage wasn't cutting it any more. Hope you manage to sort it out - sleep deprivation from perimenopause is bloody awful!
