Does oestrogen cause dizziness and nausea

I've just started on oestrogel as my evorel patches are unavailable. The last few days I've been have had dizzy spells, nausea and haven't felt myself. Is this a usual side effect?

I'm using 3 pumps daily of the gel as that is supposedly the equivalent of 150mg patches. I'm early 40s post hysterectomy.

Not used the estrogel but I'm certain I read about dizziness and nausea on the patches. I too can't get hold of Evorel any more either, but they've given me a generic prescription for Esdradiol patches, which means they can give me any brand name that they have in stock. I have to phone round the pharmacies to see who has it first though. I've managed to get estraderm patches at the moment. They don't stick as well as Evorel though. I'm 38 - hysterectomy

How long have you used the gel @Sewrainbow? I found I had to build up from half a pump to 2 pumps over a couple of weeks when I first started. The beauty of the gel is that you can drop the dose right back and then build up slowly. I think jingling splits her dose between am and pm - could be worth a try?

Sewrainbow · 26/02/2020 07:05

Thanks that's something I hadn't considered, splitting the dose. I'm only in the first week but feel horrid. Also, the size of a pump can vary, depending how far you push the plunger, this morning I've made them smaller.

Just realised my title should be oestrogel!

When my evorel ran out last year I switched to tablets and had dizziness and nausea initially-I out it down to new ‘medication’ and the body adjusting.

I got Evorel Sequi from a pharmacy in Birmingham on Feb 13th, so keep trying-updates say it’s due in end of March but it’s clearly filtering through in places

Hi @Sewrainbow Maybe I can help?
I've used gel for 10+ years. I started early-mid 50s so not like you, as you are younger and post hyster so you will prob need more than the usual 2 pumps.

When I started, my consultant suggested using less than 1 pump and working upwards.

I found 1 pump controlled day time symptoms but not night sweats so I increased to 2 pumps.
I felt very nauseous - like morning sickness.

I decided to split the dose- first around 9am, last around 10-11pm. This worked fine.

According to Dr Louise Newson, 2 pumps is the same as a 50mcg patch, Are you sure yours is 150? I didn't think they came in that dose.

I'd suggest you do two things- reduce the dose to 2 pumps and split it. If 2 isn't enough, go up to 3.

HTH.

JinglingHellsBells · 26/02/2020 11:17

ps a full pump is the plunger all the way down. That is ONE measure so to get half you don't push the plunger right down- you can't be exact on this.

Thank you so much to everyone that has replied.

I'm definitely 150 patches, I used a 100 and a 50 at the same time. It is a high dose and my GP was twitchy about giving it but it was as a result of a consultant referral, unfortunately the hospital discharged me once everything had settled ( I'd been through lots of other tablets but they gave me migraine).

If w lumps.are the same as 50 patch sounds like I need to use more but I will do asn pp suggested and build up gradually and split doses through the day.

I did think it was a case of getting used to new meds, I didn't really want to go back to GP, they're no more clued up than me really... if things dont improve then I will ask to be referred back to consultant but then maybe the patches will be back in stock bu then 🤞

I split my dose to one am one pm and feel ok.TBH one thing I have realised is eostrogel makes me zoned out. This is great in some respects however I am tired in the mornings which I am not used to.

Dontdisturbmenow · 28/02/2020 08:58

I suffered a lot from dizziness and nausea in the perimenopause stage and pin pointed it to when I had oestrogen surges. It also linked to when I had a drop in blood pressure and resting heart rate.

Sewrainbow · 03/03/2020 07:19

These last comments are interesting, as I felt very zoned out last week.

I'm feeling less dizzy though I've used two pumps a day in the morning and will build up to another one in the evening I think. Thanks everyone.

Hoping for some reassurance ladies. Had my patch increased from evorel 50 sequi to everol 75 patch and progesterone capsuals days 16/28 as I was getting some symptoms again. 4 weeks on and my hearing has become so sensitive, pressure in my head and feel so disorientated. Should I drop back to 50 or should I persevere , I was on 50 for 6 months before changing
