Hello, does anyone know if its ok to eat phytoestrogenic foods while on hrt? I am in early menopause at age 37 and is put on hrt, was just recently reading an article about phytoestrogenic foods which are pretty much what l eat in all the time. Do you think this would give me more estrogen than l need, therefore bad? Thank you.

Has your GP or gynaecologist ever asked you what food you ate and you should not eat certain foods because they cause extra estrogen build up in your body? Nutritionist pay too much attention to these things and write on sided stories but do you know that vitamin b6 , zinc and magnesium promote progesterone in your body. So say you are eating foods that are phytoestrogens but food also contains b6 , zinc and magnesium so you are also producing progesterone which counter acts estrogen . So overall I don't see how you are harmed or your body becomes dominant in one hormone just by food alone. Yes if you have ovarian cyst you can become estrogen dominant or with certain other medical conditions. And I agree we should pay attention to what we eat and everything is okay in moderation. Besides if food can give us enough estrogen then doctors would advise to eat soya rather than medicine. Eat what you want unless it is in form of supplement or herbal medicine, in that case consult a doctor.

A gyn said to me to take red clover in addition with my hrt (2mg estradiol and 10 mg dydrogesterone) as a supplement cause my womb lining was too thin and due to my age (44 years old).
My current gyn doesn’t agree and his opinion is to stay on hrt without any other supplement, except vit d and magnesium, avoid alcohol and have a healthy diet and lifestyle.

@Sageda The amount of estrogen you will get from food is minute. If phytoestrogens worked fully, no one would use hrt. You are worrying about nothing.

Yes if you have ovarian cyst you can become estrogen dominant or with certain other medical conditions.

There is no such thing as 'estrogen dominance' (do you mean PCOS?) and no connection with ovarian cysts in this context.
