Would I be right in saying that menopause effect our teeth & possible loss with decline of estrogen ? I’m still in two minds about HRT as my symptoms are mild but worry about my heart and bone loss

Bone loss can occur in the jaw as in all other parts of the body post menopause. Also, gums can shrink - they are mucous membranes and will be affected by estrogen levels. More teeth are lost through gum disease than decay. I wouldn't factor in teeth as a reason to use HRT, but as we get older looking after our teeth and gums and having enough calcium in our diet is essential.

I was told that menopause can make your mouth dryer. Having always had very good teeth and gums, I had a shocker of a regular check-up a year ago. I have always brushed and flossed so can only assume that menopause and a level of stress (elderly parents becoming seriously ill) had changed something. I've been on HRT for six months now. Not sure whether my mouth is more 'watered' but last dental appointment a week ago, I was told I would have got a sticker for excellent cleaning had I been about fifty years younger.

My teeth seemed to have suffered, only recently, am 49.

All due to horrible sudden onset gastric reflux/GERD directly linked to menopause. Sad

Agree on the dry mouth. Not god for teeth.

I had honestly never considered teeth as a possible menopause issue! Is no part of the female body exempt?
