Hello. Is there anyone out there who was diagnoised with POF in their mid 30s and opted Vitex or other natural remedies instead of HRT? My question is let s say you overcome the menopause sysmtoms with Vitex, but does it also protect you from the long term consequences regarding hearth, bone, brain problems? Thank you so much.

I haven't heard of Vitex but as health writer I've researched and written about POI for national publications and websites and spoken to some of the world menopause experts on treatments.

You need HRT.

Whatever Vitex is, it won't protect you from bone loss, heart disease and dementia.

Depending on how long ago your periods stopped, you need to see your GP and discuss POI and ask for a bone density scan.

HRT for POI is essential and you need it regardless of whether you have symptoms or not.

I absolutely agree with Bells, hrt is the only medical treatment for POI, if there are no contradictions.

Thank you. I m 37 and my doctor today prescriped me with estrogen patches called Climera. I went to good dr and happy to see that he put me on patches. I haven t purchased them yet and hopefully tomorrow but l just want to ask sth. He said l would wear those patches during the whole month, by changing them each week. And that l would also take progesterone tablets during the last two weeks then stop both for a week and also get period, then start again. My question is if 2 times a day 100mg is too much or not. 200 mg progesterone a day 2 weeks each month. And estrogen patches through the whole month. Thank you all very much

Good to hear you've got sorted :)

The regime you are on is estrogen every day ( from the patch) and 200mcg progesterone for 12 days each month ( usually every 28 - 30 days counts as a month.)

Thank you JinglingHellsBells for your time and also efforts to give the right info to anyone out there.Just purchased them and on the estrogen patch it writes 3.9mg. Considering l will use this for the next 13 years, do you think these amounts are safe and not overdose? As well as 200mg each day for 14 days. I see you said 12 days but my doctor said 14 , should I do 14 or 12? Thank you.

Also what do you think about swimming with these patches, do you also think the bump is the best place to put it and where else can l put it?

Something makes me think you are not in the UK ?

You mention buying your HRT rather than getting it on a prescription.

In the UK Climera is not prescribed...estrogen patches tend to be from this list.

The dose for Utrogestan is 12 x 200 per cycle- this is on the leaflet inside the pack. 14 days is too much. It won't do you any harm but it can be sedating and you may find 14 days too long.

Some women use it for 25 days a month or every day if they are post meno- this isn't you.

Swimming- I've never used patches but most women apply them to the bum cheeks below the bikini line.

Sorry too many questions but which calcium supplements do you suggest? Lately there was an article about Calcium supplements not being absorbed in the body without Vit K. My doctor said l can t get it solely through diet even if l try so hard. I was making sure l get 1200 a day, 3 to 4 servings of dairy and other calcium rich food. Would love to hear your views on dairy, l get my dairy from farmer therefore no growth hormone given to the cows. Thank you.

I went through POI aged 21. I've listened to lots of talks. You can't protect yourself though supplements or diet alone.
Take the HRT is my advice x

Thank you Mumlove3.I am on HRT as on today but my doctor still prescribed calcium supplements. This is why l asked. Do you mind me asking if you ended up getting pregnant afterwards. Also do you know if it is okay to take Vitex and HRT together as l ve heard Vitex might help with ovulation.

I got pregnant via egg donation and have two lovely children. But I was on the contraceptive pill in my 20’s for hormone replacement. Switched to HRT in my 30’s. I’ve got no experience vitex I’m afraid.
