Specialist recommended mirena implant and estrogen patch - comments?

I have tried 2 kinds of oral HRT both of which made me bleed heavily. I was referred to a specialist who has recommended a Mirena implant (I had one before and it stopped my periods, so he thinks it will stop the bleeding I am getting), and then a patch to give me the rest of the hormone I need. Does this sound weird to anyone? I was kind of hoping for a hysterectomy and then to be able to take regular HRT

Mirena and a patch are regular HRT, in fact it's the gold standard HRT.
Mirena has been great for me completely stopped my periods and will be getting another when this one runs out. The advantage of patches or gel is that they are safer in regards to blood clots which pills are not. Most gynaecologists will prescribe transdermal HRT for this reason. Hysterectomy is seen as a last resort and is quite an old fashioned approach (unless there's a medical reason) for heavy bleeding and most will want you to try Mirena first .

I'm having this combination for hrt. Mirena is great as it stopped my periods which were heavy and painful. I use the estrogen patch as well to combat menopause symptoms.

The Mirena is not an implant- implants go in your arm.

Mirena is a coil like the ordinary copper coil but it's covered in a type of progestogen which is slowly released.

I have a Mirena and oestrogen gel. My GP told me this was the safest method.

I have this combo. It’s fine (other than that patches have not been available for a year so have had to use gel instead).
