Early menopause hrt after 5 years what dosage

I had an early menopause at 43 (I'm now 49) and last year had a bone scan only to find I have osteopenia in my spine

I want to go on a low dose hrt.
I have been to the Dr 3 times and asked them to prescribe it. They have refused because I don't have any symptoms

If there is anyone else taking hrt for osteoporosis protection please can you tell me what brand and dose you are on.

I want to demand something, but don't know what's out there

Sorry to hear this.

Yet another case of a useless GP.

Can I ask who referred you for your DEXA scan?
It it was your GP and it has shown you have lost bone, they ought to refer you to a consultant to discuss options.
What plan is in place to deal with your spine?
When are you due to be scanned again?
Has your GP taken responsibility for looking after you with this?
If not, you ought to formally complain or change practices.

You don't need a low dose of HRT- you need the dose which protects your bones. Certain types are listed as being right for this but in general it doesn't matter that much as long as you are using at least 1 and more like 2 mgs of estrogen a day.

Honestly, this is not about you choosing a type of HRT, it's about your dr taking responsibility and treating you properly.

Your GP is being negligent because you do not need symptoms like flushes etc to get HRT if you had a ) an early menopause and b) you have now lost bone density.

You ought to print off the NICE menopause guidelines for your GP (that's why they were published- for GPs and women to read) and tell them it's the advice of NICE to treat early menopause with HRT.

That's a real shame. You should have been started on in HRT at age 43 to protect your bones! Could you go back to the GP and say you've started having hot flushes and request HRT to treat these? You don't need low dose, you just need HRT!

I agree, I had an early meno too and started hrt almost immediately. You need hrt for your bones and heart. I think that the adequate dose is about 2mg.
