My husband just got back from the chemist. The shortage has hit us too now
.Apparently the pharmacist said she could offer pills instead.I still have one more place to try.Does anyone know what alternatives I would get?Previously I was on estradot but it made me bloated .
Such a shame as the patches worked wonders for me.
Thanks in advance.

Both the British Menopause Society website and (info transferred from their site) and Dr Louise Newson's site have lists of what is available, the dates when it might be sorted and options according to what you took.

Ah thanks jingle.😊 I just heard from a couple of older relatives the HRT made them feel to ill to persevere so while I feel normal again I love my patches.

Evorel are apparently due back in stock next month. Fingers crossed as I only have 6 weeks supply left and I really don’t want to go onto pills.

whatisforteamum · 16/01/2020 17:02

Excellent. How do you know this?.Honestly this will make me so happy.I did have 3 weeks left when I reordered now I am concerned.I have no flushes a better mood and No crippling joint pain that plagued me last year.

Ooh that's good news, where did you hear that StayDetermined?

I've only got two patches left. The gp prescribed tablets, but I really don't want to take them. I'm hoping the patches will be available soon, but not sure what I'll do in the meantime. I'm thinking of trying to buy some online from abroad, has anyone found any?

whatisforteamum · 16/01/2020 17:30

Out of interest why don't you fancy the pills?

OP posts:
mumoftwodc · 16/01/2020 17:32

Following as I ran out last week and the only alternative available isn't suitable for me so I'm off HRT completely.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2020 17:33

There is no shortage of estrogen gels ( 2 brands) or Utrogestan.
These are usually the 1st choice now anyway of menopause consultants. They are a better alternative to patches as they keep it transdermal (gel) and the progesterone is natural.

JustMyName · 16/01/2020 17:41

I'm worried that tablets have a slightly increased risk of stroke. It also took a long time for things to settle down with the patches, I had a lot of on and off bleeding and I don't want to go through that again.

I've used the transdermal gel and utrogestan and it didn't work as well as the patches and I had extremely painful breasts. I'd just like to stay on the patches, now that they did the job and I have no problems on them.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2020 18:08

@Justmyname Surely you can source a type of estrogen patch and use Norethisterone or Utrogestan as a separate tablet if there are no fully transdermal patches around?

JustMyName · 16/01/2020 18:15

Utrogestan made my breasts incredibly painful, so I don't want to go back to that. My doctor didn't seem particularly interested, it seems this is something we should just suck up ... what do mental women matter?! Angry

JinglingHellsBells · 17/01/2020 08:12

@justmyname You can ask your dr for any type of estrogen- pill, patch or gel- they are available.

Then you need Norethisterone tablets take either daily if you had a no bleed type of Evorel, or for 12 days a month is you were using a no bleed patch.

Norethisterone is in your patch so you seem to get on ok with it?

Your GP should know how to prescribe this and if they don't they can find out! They can ask more specialist drs.

JinglingHellsBells · 17/01/2020 08:13

sorry- that's 12 days for a bleed type hrt.

whatisforteamum · 17/01/2020 09:41

thanks Jingle.Very helpful to us newbies.

Thanks. My gp was no help, she just said if I'm having to take a tablet anyway, i might as well just take one tablet for all of it. She didn't point out that a patch might be safer or have less side effects ...

JustMyName · 17/01/2020 09:43

And of course, now I've already collected it from the chemist she'll not want to prescribe anything else!

Bunnylady54 · 17/01/2020 09:47

Glad to hear the patches will be back soon. Evorel Conti were brilliant for me & I find my tablets a faff ( one hour before food or two hours after).

whatisforteamum · 17/01/2020 11:23

Any side effects bunnylady? I ask as I couldn't take the Pill due to nausea.

OP posts:
Bunnylady54 · 17/01/2020 12:42

I’ve only taken a couple of pills so far. I did feel incredibly tired the other night but realised I had taken the tablet, used the gel but was still wearing a patch!

Wavedancer · 20/01/2020 14:51

I am in the same situation. I love my Evorel Sequi patches but I am running low on supplies and would prefer not to switch to a pill because I've heard the side effects are harsher. I have been searching everywhere to find some, to no avail. I hope that the estimates are correct and that we will have access to these meds again next month....fingers crossed for us all....

Wavedancer · 20/01/2020 15:46

Update to my earlier message - I just managed to find some Evorel patches in stock at treated.com - they look like a legit operation and have confirmed that they are in stock, yay! www.treated.com/menopause/evorel

whatisforteamum · 21/01/2020 17:06

Oh thanks😁.The pharmacist said I can keep trying as they come in and out of stock and she will contact GP regarding an alternative.I did look up the link to buying some online but I'm unsure how anyone knows how to trust these sites. It did look legit wavedancer.

Wavedancer · 22/01/2020 18:12

@whatisforteamum - just to confirm, my patches arrived a day after ordering and are definitely the real deal. Also, very thorough service from treated.com who kept me informed with dispatch texts, etc. I don't like having to pay so much for these, but the thought of going cold turkey fills me with dread, so I would order from here again if I needed to.

whatisforteamum · 23/01/2020 09:51

Good I'm just off to the GP she wants to discuss alternatives.Others advised against online purchasing however I am like you...dreading feeling back now I felt!!

OP posts:
whatisforteamum · 23/01/2020 14:44

The GP prescribed eostrogel 2 pumps and a natural type microginised? Progesterone.I am happy with this.
Also I mentioned constant need to pee she did an exam and I've been referred to the hospital for a bladder and kidney scan which is useful as My late father died of cancer that went to his bladder and mum has he ovarian cancer at an advanced stage twice.
