Stopping hrt just like that

Have been on Angelique for 8 years. Has now been discontinued. Have now been prescribed femiston as only dual hormone replacement therapy available and the most similar to Angelique hormone wise. Also it’s the only hrt available in my area apparently. Have been taking them for 4 months and have started bleeding again once a month for the last two months. It’s very light but what would happen if I just stopped? Would I go through the menopause all over again?. Would be grateful for any answers from anyone who’s just stopped hrt. I’m fed up and 58 by the way

I understand that stopping abruptly can be dangerous for the heart.
You're supposed to stop gradually over around 3 months- like missing one pill a week for a while, then two, (like every other day etc).

If you are using Femoston is must be the cyclical sort that gives a bleed.

I don't believe there are no other types available; there is no shortage of estrogen gel or micronised progesterone or Norethisterone that are used with it.

You can't go through the menopause twice, but whatever symptoms you had before HRT may still be there are they can last for 15-20 years in some women.

@JinglingHellsBells is it the same for stopping patches - re being bad for the heart . Quite often if a patch has fallen off I forget to put another on for a few days !

@girlofthenorth No it's not.

But how on earth do you forget to replace a patch for days? Smile Surely you just go to the box and out one on?

@JinglingHellsBells Winkyou'd think so but I often forget!

girlofthenorth I forget to put a new one on too sometimes. The menopause has fried my brain Blush

I'd go back to your doctor and tell them you're having problems and what else can they suggest. I understand the gel and utrogestan are available and there are other tablets that may be better. Possibly it's a bit early to stop using hrt as you may still be having symptoms.
