Please recommend a vitamin/mineral supplement that can help with peri-menopausal thinning hair!

My previously thick hair is thinning and my forehead looks much bigger. I am pretty sure it is peri-menopausal. I still have regular periods but my memory is completely shot and I feel exhausted most of the time.

I have seen things in Boots like Menopace but there are so many different things to choose from and not sure what I need. Can anyone recommend anything for menopause related thinning hair/hair loss?

Thanks in advance.

I can't suggest a product but I can warn you that copper can cause hair loss so it would be best to avoid anything with too much of this in it.

The Ordinary Multi Peptide Hair serum. Doesn't STOP hair thinning as such but keeps existing locks healtjy and bouncy. So the extra body and shine (almost!) makes up for less hair density

Highly recommend going to specialist dermatologist and getting prescription for minoxidil/spironolactone combination.

Have you seen the doctor? I'm in my 40's and have hair loss. My ferritin and vit D are really low and apparently that can mimic hypothyroidism. I'm hoping I improve now I'm on supplements.

Biotin

I have the same problem, I'm taking. Biotin but not long enough to make a difference yet

Terriergrrrrrrrr · 10/01/2020 14:45

I've had this problem for about 18 months, bloods all fine, iron levels fine but I started taking Lambert's Florisene tablets about 2.5 months ago and my hair seems to be getting back to normal. My hair was always fine but plenty of it and it feels like that again, or getting there, after being thin and wispy for a while. Good luck with it all.

Again, not a supplement but Bumble and Bumble Full Potential range has done wonders for keeping my hair. I use the shampoo and styling spray, and sometimes the conditioner. It doesn't make it grow, but does stop what you have breaking and falling out.

I've noticed a genuine improvement with Nutrihair. I think it might be the iron, in my case, which I seem to absorb well from Nutrihair, but I suppose we're all different so it might not work for everyone.

Just remember that it will take 3-6 months to show any improvement if what you are taking works, and then you have to wait for it to start to grow out into your main body of hair, etc.
If you take a handful of supplements you may not know what is working for you.

Help please I am still going through the menopause and I am always getting itching below and burning and a little pain like cystitis now again have any of you had these symptoms I use different products but always comes back , are there things that helped you with this as it makes you feel terrible, I have not had any hormone treatment as I lost my mum to cancer , if you can help in anyway that would be great

As much as I dislike the Daily Wail journalist Sarah Vine, she has written a lot about her own hair loss, so probably tried everything. I'd look for her articles for a sincere set of experiences.

I think biotin is the vitamin, from my own limited research. It's in my amazon basket.

Interesting about copper, chocolate has copper Confused

My ferritin is really low but still (just) in the “normal” range. The range is 12-180 and mine was down at 14 last year. Apparently levels need to be around 90 for decent hair growth and healthy nails. My hair has been falling out loads but I’m going to be starting very high strength iron tablets tomorrow so hopefully it helps. Biotin is also good to take and a diet rich in omegas.

I had issues with hair loss over two years ago and after lots of research I found that reducing the amount of animal products you consume can help, I didn’t believe it at first but tried it as a I was desperate and believe it or not my hair has grown back and stopped shedding. Took about three months being vegan and then moved to just reducing ie I eat meat occasionally and sometimes cheese but have removed cows milk completely. For me it certainly was a problem with my hormones and of course animal products have tons of synthetic hormones which apparently mess you your natural balance. I also came of hormone contraception (which may have helped the most rather than the diet). I’d also recommend not brushing you hair when wet or damp, gently dry it or let dry naturally if you can.
I know how difficult it all can be, hope it gets better for you soon.
