Hi , I'm going through the perimenopause and have been for about 7 years, im 50 in april and im still having irregular periods. My symptoms are so bad that ive spent the last 3 years in the house,i had to give up work because of the insomnia and other horrendous hrt problems. I kept going to the doctor to ask for hrt but she wont give it to me on the basis that i'm still having a period ,despite the nhs guidelines stating that perimenopausal women can be given cyclical hrt. I've had the same response from 5 other female docs at the same practise,in desperation I went to the gp on tues and lied and said that it had now been a year since my last period so I could get hrt(its been a year since my last gp visit) Ive now got a prescription for Kliovance which is a continious combined hrt,my question is _ will i do myself more harm than good if i take this? has anyone out there on kliovance who was still menstruating and if so did it help?Im wondering if its not prescribed to women still having a bleed because there is a risk of pregnancy,or if its not safe, has anyone out there who is perimenopausal taken continuous hrt and been ok on it,Help i really dont know whether to take them or put them in the bin,its my last resort as antidepressants don't work for me,

The only 'risk' is you might get your own periods breaking through.

In all honesty, you ought to report these GPs to the practice management team as they are giving you incorrect information and treatment.

You should see a different GP- doesn't have to be a female one- and take a copy of the NICE guidelines on menopause (easy to find online) or the list of HRT available to peri meno- look at the website Menopause Matters for the list of HRT.

Other than that, your option is to pay to see a menopause specialist but it makes me wonder how many other women are being fobbed off at your drs.
