What can I do about this overheating at night?

I suffered from bad night sweats for the last few years and they seemed to have stopped but I now feel that I’m actually boiling most nights (even my husband commented on the heat I seem to be radiating!)
I am already on HRT (Elleste duo 1mg) and still having periods
I am alone in this overheating & is there anything else I can take?
I’m dreading the summertime!

Wool duvet....really good for regulating heat.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2020 09:02

Do you have 100% cotton bed sheets and nightwear? Don't underestimate the difference that makes. Dh and I have separate single duvets now, he has a thick one and I have a 4 tog cotton one. We have a bedspread for the day so it looks nice and tidy Smile

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2020 09:04

A hot water bottle filled with cold water is good too!

gamerchick · 07/01/2020 09:06

I'm using those gel cool mats for dogs atm. They're brilliant during the summer as well.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/01/2020 09:10

Oh yes,I have one of those for the summer too,I got mine from Aldi. I found the cold water bottle lasted longer though.

A fan!

A high summer wool duvet from soak and sleep. Open window and a meaco air circulator. Run cold water over your wrists, splash water on face and stand in front of fan for a min.

TheMarbleFaun · 07/01/2020 14:50

Thanks for all the replies Flowers
Would a wool duvet & cotton sheets really make that much of a difference?

Wool duvet made a huge difference to me. I started HRT as well - but I was waking up soaking wet 2 to 3 times a night. The wool duvet made a real difference. I've always found polycotton sheets too much so only ever used cotton.

Abraid2 · 07/01/2020 16:05

Is your dosage high enough?

okiedokieme · 07/01/2020 16:14

Since my h left me it's easier Grin. I had to ditch my memory foam mattress too. My dr won't prescribe hrt yet as my hormone levels are too high, it's the insomnia that's worse than the heat

okiedokieme · 07/01/2020 16:16

Ps pure cotton sheets and either pure cotton or silk if you want to wear pj's (nothing is better)

JinglingHellsBells · 07/01/2020 19:05

@okiedokieme

Maybe see another GP?

It's not recommended now to do blood tests for peri (NICE guidance 2015) and GPs and drs are supposed to prescribe based on symptoms.

It's not right you are being refused if you want HRT.

Level of estrogen is irrelevant as it changes by the hour/ day and tests are completely unreliable.

JinglingHellsBells · 07/01/2020 19:08

@TheMarbleFaun If you are on HRT and still have sweats so bad, it's your HRT that needs sorting.

You need to try a 2mg dose.

You ought not be suffering like this on HRT. It is showing your dose is not right or you need a different type of delivery (maybe you aren't absorbing it through your gut or skin.)

Go back to your GP and ask for a higher dose or different type.

JinglingHellsBells · 07/01/2020 19:08

Sorry I understand your sweats have stopped but you are still very hot. Same advice applies!

Whynosnowyet · 07/01/2020 19:09

Tesco sell proper cool sheets!! Absolutely do work!!

DameXanaduBramble · 07/01/2020 19:13

A fan.

TheMarbleFaun · 07/01/2020 20:39

Thanks jingling yes my sweats have stopped after a few years instead I feel now that my core temperature is raised (if that makes sense) and I’m permanently roasting although it seems more pronounced at night.
Could this still be helped by a higher dose of HRT?

OP posts:
madaboutrunning · 08/01/2020 09:09

An ice-cold drink around 30 mins before you go to bed can help bring down your core temperature to help you fall/stay asleep. It's not cheap but tart cherry juice has melatonin in so a glass of that ice-cold has a potential double effect.

JinglingHellsBells · 08/01/2020 10:14

@TheMarbleFaun Yes, that's what I suggested!

If you are hot at night and during the day I don't see the point in differentiating between sweats and feeling hot- they are both symptoms of low / loss of estrogen so the treatment is the same.

purpleme12 · 08/01/2020 10:54

I am quite hot at night too. Put it this way I used to feel the cold and have at least 13.5 tog on with winter pyjamas now I have 4 tog and short sleeved pyjama top and still don't snuggle under the cover most nights. However there's no sweating or anything. I'm only mid 30. Does this mean I might be starting peri menopause or something? Cos surely this is too young for this? But the is the only sign though
