Perimenopause - Seeking specialist advice - Dr Panay or Mr Studd?

Any experiences with the above specialists please? I am seeking some urgent treatment but I have read mixed reviews and looking for a bit of reassurance I suppose. Anyone? Thanks to the lovely lady who has been PMing me, eternally grateful x

It's considered a bit unethical to discuss drs online in terms of their expertise (they could sue for defamation!) so might be worth asking people to PM you?

Mr Panay has, as far as I know, a 6 month waiting list for private patients though he has other drs available at his Harley St clinic.

He does accept patients on the NHS at the C&W meno clinic- GP referral needed- but again you may not see him but one of the team.

Prof Studd to my knowledge is more or less retired and from what I gather prescribes the same regime to almost all patients.

What exactly is your problem- can anyone here help?

RedRosie · 31/12/2019 11:28

I saw Dr Panay at the Chelsea and Westminster menopause clinic (on the NHS) a few years ago. The wait was less than a month and the care absolutely excellent.

Just for the record, it's MR Panay ( don't demote him!)

morningmarigold · 31/12/2019 12:29

Fair point jingling. Please could people pm me. Opinions are merely subjective. Thank you.

Yes. Apologies to Mr P!

He was however, marvellous. Do PM me if you have any specific questions @morningmarigold although obviously we all have different issues, and you don't need to share yours publicly if you don't want to.

Mr Panay. PM me if you would like further information.

morningmarigold · 31/12/2019 17:25

I'm going to get my name on Mr Panay's waiting list!

I'm not trying to minimise your symptoms, but you will find that most drs will treat you the same way; that is, prescribe HRT maybe with advice on lifestyle and diet, and usually at the moment the trend is for transdermal estrogen ( patch or gel) plus Utrogestan (natural progesterone.)

You could get these from your GP if you ask.

The only real benefit of seeing a dr privately is to try drugs off label- ie testosterone for women is not available on the NHS- or if you have had really serious issues like cancer which mean most GPs won't touch HRT for you.

If your symptoms are pretty straightforward, then all you need is a modern type of HRT which they will all suggest you use for 3 months to see if it suits.

Is this the same thing the specialist would prescribe Jingling?

Yes.

They don't have anything you can't get from a GP.

There is a finite choice of HRT- pills, patches, gel and various different progestins.

At the moment the trend is for transdermal ( no risk of blood clots) and Utrogestan.

I've been on them both for years.

Jingling, thanks for your advice. Can I ask what the bio-identical bit is about - not sure this is available on the NHS?
