Anybody else 56 or older and still getting periods?

Hi I am still blessed with the curse. AFter 3 years of erratic periods I had thought they finally stopped in January 2019. Then in September they came back! One normal one then one much lighter one then one with just a mere drip a day more or less lol.

This one for Xmas has been quite heavy! Nice gift from Santa lol.

Is it just me as a friend of mine knows of literally nobody who has them at this age still and she had stacks of women friends so is representative of many.

Also I recently had a 3 week migraine in the build up to my period. I am used to a few days of a migraine but nothing like that.

It isn't a full lie in a darkened room migraine but enough to totally ruin quality of life.

My son''s half sister says it is because I am still young and my body is good working order lol. I don't feel that I am sick to death of them!

They started when I was 11 after all. They are also really clockwork now. With sore breasts for up to 3 weeks. Nice.

Any thoughts out there please?

I’m 54 and in October I had an unexpected MC (during my MIL’s funeral FGS) when I didn’t even know I was pg. I thought I was having a flood but then recognised some missed MC signs. Someone on here told me to do a pg test which I did. However, the hospital consultant didn’t believe that a 54 year old woman could conceive naturally so he misdirected people towards my “molar”pregnancy which then resulted in a prolonged wait and me contracting sepsis.

I think I’m alright now but keep taking the pills, everyone, take the pills!

I did some research when in my late 50s and found this:

Like a pp said, keep taking the pills (or equivalent). And apparently a late menopause has some health benefits

(These are mainstream media links but medical sources confirm)

Oh and Earnest your consultant was a massive dimwit. Why don’t these people take two minutes to Google when confronted with something out of the ordinary? I had to direct my GP to the story about the 59 yo conception and make her refer me to a specialist menopause clinic. TBF she then did so immediately.

How is everybody on here? I just got my monthly period yesterday. :(

I'm still only 51 and pretty regular still here - every three weeks tho, and over Xmas I had a 20 day period!
I had pretty bad anemia last year but iron supplements sorted that out. I'm also on tranexamic acid for day 1 and 2 of period.

A friend of mine got pregnant aged 54 but sadly MCed. Her periods stopped shortly after that, I think.

I also had to replace my menstrual cup last year so I'm still glad I'm getting my money's worth for the moment Grin

All done and dusted by time I was 50. Including hrt. See a GP and get blood tests followed by medical advice.
It's the next stage of your life. You need to look after yourself. Shock

52 and still going here. My mother just stopped at 50 with no menopausal symptoms whatsoever Envy

Mine stopped two years ago when I was 55.

JinglingHellsBells · 28/01/2020 08:04

I was almost 53. The regular ones stopped when I was 52 and a few months, then I had a couple of light bleeds at almost 53 (but there was a query then if it was a blip in my HRT.) I didn't think so as I had PMT type signs at the time, but who knows. Both my mum and gran were 50-ish.

borntobequiet · 28/01/2020 08:09

Painful cramps and light spotting last week despite Mirena (which itself makes cramps worse, I can feel the damn thing). I had hoped 2020 would bring relief...but no.

TurduckenFucken · 28/01/2020 08:10

I’m a mere whippersnapper at 49, but mine are still monthly, regular as clockwork. Only started using reusable pads this last year so I’m pleased I might get my money’s worth. Grin

They don't call it the curse for nothing.

On the plus side it keeps our face looking lovely and youthful. I am always told I look a good ten years younger than my age.

I'm 50 and had thought they'd stopped as I had a 6 month break, however they seem to have reappeared and I've had 3 since November Hmm - last one was heavy.

During that time Tampax seems to have reverted to non plastic which has to be a good thing.
Have not heard of reusable pads, will have to look them up.

over50andfab · 29/01/2020 09:48

@borntobequiet I feel for you!

I was having pretty horrendous but more sporadic periods at 56 (think ½pt+ loss each time - I used a mooncup and pads for years and measured it once!). I had a Mirena coil put in and other than the odd dark discharge all has been bliss. I haven’t a clue what will happen when the coil comes out - might just have another one in as I’m also on estrogen patches now (bone health lowers CVD risk) Slim size btw, I think it’s all hereditary when we start/stop periods.

I don’t have much in the way of menopausal symptoms other than brain fog and crying easily, but the one that did start with a vengeance not long after the coil went in was Vaginal Atrophy. So anyone who is of menopausal age but still getting periods and finding their fanjos getting sore/dry or getting bladder frequency, there is topical estrogen that can help.

The stuff my mother never told me Confused
