Hello, I see on here you're a bit of an expert on such matters. How do I go about getting hrt? And who through, do I join BUPA. Is the supply of hrt any better privately?

I don't think she posts any more, unless under a new name. I might be wrong though.

Your GP can prescribe HRT, although some of us have gone private.

Even with a private prescription you still have to get it dispensed from a pharmacy so you won't get priority over someone with NHS prescription.
I haven't had issues with obtaining my HRT supplies yet but i don't use patches as i use Estrogel.

www.newsonhealth.co.uk

I went here. Just ring and book, its private and you don't need a referral.
Can't recommend it enough.

I went to the same place--Newson. They dispense my prescription as well, which is a little more expensive because they charge a fee, but just at the moment I can't face doing battle over the Utragestan element of my HRT, which isn't ordinarily prescribed in my area. I found them very good. Not cheap, but the amount of hassle you are saved by getting something that is tailored to you and knowing that the doctors are really on top of the latest thinking makes it a good investment, I think.

I am feeling good following nearly four months on oestrogel and Utragestan, which I take orally every day. I have just lost my father and was able to function while helping arrange funerals and finances. I can't imagine how it would have been if I were still suffering from insomnia and night sweats and that feeling of blah.

Polly gave me good advice years ago.

The nub of it was, go to the website menopausemetters.co.uk.
Go to your g p armed with a list of your symptoms.
Ask for hrt.

I asked for oestrogen Gel and utrogestan capsules and have been on them for two years feeling fantastic.
I have a uterine ultrasound every year to check the endometrium lining thickness, and I’ve had a mammogram too. (Nhs)

You need to do your own research on the public / private /insurance that suits your own budget.
For what it’s worth, you can get a private script from your nhs GP if they don’t want to prescribe the gel and capsules on the nhs. Most will.

Nhs gps are fine if you have done your research, so do a bit of reading and make a list of your symptoms. You don’t need a private specialist.

@TBeats Private health insurance will not cover menopause (none of the providers.) It's classed as natural and although they will cover investigations for things like heavy periods ( which may or may not be related to menopause), they will not cover you for peri or meno, or the cost of HRT.

Go to the British Menopause Society website and at the top of the page is a tab for Specialists, listed by region.

A first appt is around £250 but you rally don't need a specialist unless your GP is refusing to treat you or you have very complicated issues around meno like cancer or heart disease.
