Hot but not a hot flush

I'm 48, periods normal still. Bit heavier maybe but not much. They come and go in the same way they always have.

However I'm hot. Not some flush or flash or creeping fever, I just feel like someone has turned up my internal thermostat. I've gone from someone who has always had freezing cold hands and feet and was always chilly, to someone who can't even have the heating on. I literally keep it off when I'm at home on my own and I have windows open. Just like feeling cooler

But like I said, I'm not having flushes that's come and go or anything. Just a sweaty mess.

Does this sound peri menopausal to you?

Absolutely yes!

wheretoyougonow · 13/12/2019 23:40

Yes. I am very hot to touch but definitely not flushes.

ladybird69 · 13/12/2019 23:45

Here too. I still have my fan on and wearing thin T-shirt’s. going into other people’s homes is terrible the heat makes me feel sick and faint.

LucyLocketss · 14/12/2019 00:04

Hmm. I think I'm still firmly in denial. I prefer it that way 😀

It's just something I've noticed more this year. I don't wear a coat when I go out for example - not often anyway. But it's definitely not a hot flush.. I just feel all warm inside

I hear you about the heating - always been the one to have it whacked right up. Now I go behind my husband turning it to zero

Absolutely. Like you was always someone who was cold all the time and spent November to March swathed in layers of wool and cashmere. However, that all changed and perimenopause made me permanently hot to the degree that the past few winters I've not so much as needed a coat, jumpers, gloves, a scarf or tights. Heating hasn't been switched on and windows wide open, and on the bed was a thin cotton sheet and v. thin comforter. I had a fan on at work all the time I was at my desk.

Now I'm on HRT I've cooled right down, and actually feel the cold again. I went out the other night in a wool coat, jumper, scarf, gloves and hat! I still sleep with the window open though, although I have several blankets on the bed.

motortroll · 14/12/2019 21:50

Yes, this is me!! I'm 42. To be fair it could be my pill as that's quite new to me!!

Honeyroar · 14/12/2019 21:52

I’ve been like this for a few years. I’m 50. It I’ve put a lot of weight on, so thought it could be that!

Flashinggreen · 14/12/2019 21:53

I’m 44 have a mirena coil so no regular periods and the last few weeks I’ve been feeling very sweaty about 6-10 times a day and through the night. Interrupting my sleep. Yes not a hot flush but coming over very sweaty.

mineofuselessinformation · 14/12/2019 21:54

Yes. I definitely went through that stage before the flushes became the 'immersed in a volcano' type.
I still go out without a coat most of the time, and actually quite enjoy feeling cold!

LucyLocketss · 14/12/2019 22:33

Well this makes for cheery reading 😲

I have put some weight in this year due to cake consumption so I'm hoping if I lose a couple of stone, maybe it'll go away again?

It's just not pleasant. Just a bit sweaty and always bloody feeling too warm.

I still sleep under a 10 tog quilt and this doesn't make me sweat, I just stick a leg out the bed if I feel hot.

I'm going to Sweden just after Xmas did a couple of days. That'll be interesting! SURELY I'll feel cold then?!

I don't want to take HRT yet i don't think. I had blood tests and a scan a couple of months ago as my periods suddenly seemed a bit heavier. Nothing on the scan and bloods normal. So dr thinks not in menopause or peri menopause but at 48, it must be on the horizon. After decades of very light periods, it's this year I suddenly realised they were heavier and a bit flooding if i wasn't careful. So that's a change after 30 odd years so... has to be something hormonal?

Yes

thistimelastweek · 14/12/2019 22:47

I think the whole menopause journey is very personal. An identifiable menu of symptoms that come together in a way that's particular to you or me.
I am post menopause and I got lucky - the symptoms weren't too bad. But, my thermostat is fucked. It's been so for years and I can only think it's a permanent state of affairs.

So I sought the advice of my Dr and he did a blood test. My Christmas present was to find out I am menopausal. Felt a bit sad and shocked as I’m only 44. So he emailed to say I could consider HRT but since I thought I was way off this I don’t know what to think. Any advice on how to get info on pros/cons etc?

TiffanyTrot · 26/12/2019 19:35

What is the blood test you have which shows you're in menopause? I didn't know there was such a thing. Good to know there is!

Flashinggreen · 26/12/2019 19:52

I have high FSH levels, although it is apparently unreliable as a test. I think because it fluctuates normally...

DramaAlpaca · 26/12/2019 19:55

Yes, that was me in perimenopause. I felt as if my internal thermostat had been permanently turned up, although I've never had an actual hot flush. I still tend to feel warmer than before, but I'm through menopause now.

StellaRockafella · 26/12/2019 22:34

OP, while losing weight might help, you will find it much harder to lose weight due to fluctuating hormones. I only managed to lose weight and stop being permanently hot once I was on HRT. I was so hot that even during a colder than usual winter, with thick snow on the ground, I didn't need to wear tight, hats, gloves, scarves of a coat thicker than a light cotton mac. The fact you're having problems with your vasomotor function is indicative of falling hormone levels, particularly oestrogen. Also, a change in your periods is also a sign.

Lastly, blood tests don't really mean anything, they merely give a snapshot of your blood at the moment it was drawn. A GP will prescribe based on your symptoms. Why don't you go to Menopause Matters website and do some reading and see if any of the other 37 symptoms are things you're also dealing with - sometimes you need to see the check list before you click you're perimenopausal/in menopause.

Flashinggreen · 27/12/2019 06:48

Thanks for the website suggestion

drivingtofrance · 28/12/2019 11:13

Oh! This is me too.

I am often very hot - especially over the past few weeks. on Christmas Day I had to step outside regularly as I was ready to combust. I was doing a lot of cooking etc but everyone else seemed happy i their jumpers etc.

am definitely in the throes of peri - as my periods have gone off plan - not the usual 28 day reliabilty . Also much more painful Angry

I haven't had a hot flush as such but am often very warm.

Will this abate once menopause if over ?
