Insomnia

I’ve been reading lots on this site and have bit the bullet and made a GPs appointment for next week. I’ve missed a few periods, am 51 and no other health problems. Fortunately the only thing I seem to be suffering from is Insomnia, and boy is it debilitating, I understand that could be from a lack of estrogen and am just trying to go to GPs with a bit of info, what are they likely to prescribe for insomnia, it’s just started very recently and I have always been a fantastic sleeper. Is the potential treatment one of the drugs they have supply problems with or will they just give me sleeping tablets. I take magnesium supplements already, active, do lots of exercise and avoid caffeine in the eve, don’t drink alcohol, but just not noticed any improvement. Thank you all

Hi it seems like you're doing all the right things with regards to diet and exercise and you're right about declining oestrogen being the culprit. I was in the same position last year with debilitating insomnia amongst other symptoms. Fortunately I have a very knowledgeable GP who prescribed HRT which has been a revelation, I sleep better than I have in years.
If you have rubbish GP they may try to fob you off with antidepressants or sleeping tablets which unless you're depressed is totally unacceptable.
The nice guidelines say HRT is the most suitable course of action (unless you have a medical history that contraindicates this)

If you're willing give it a go you can always stop at any time.
