Be careful when getting alternative types of HRT when your usual one isn't available!

Hi,

This warning is especially for people who have been prescribed HRT whilst being peri-menopausal - so are still getting periods (even if they are very irregular). I was on Evorel Sequi, but since you can't get them for love nor money, a different doctor had to prescribe me something else (i had put in a repeat). Despite explaining to him that I was only 45 and hadn't gone for more than a year without a period, and him saying on the phone I should have these tablets which were sequential two types, white and grey when I got the prescription fulfilled they were all the same type of tablet continuously. I queried it with the pharmacist who said it was fine - all the same thing. I then check with a different pharmacy and they said it wasn't ideal but there wasn't much available so it was probably that or nothing so to take them. However, when I read the leaflet it said that it was for people who were over 52 and who hadn't had a period in two years. Basically not suitable for me! I ended up doing loads of research and going back and asking to speak to a different doctor, who was fantastic. She told me not to take them, as it could cause my womb lining to build up and could cause serious problems for me - it definitely was a much bigger risk at any rate. She then prescribed me a gel and some progesterone tablets to take 12 days in 4 weeks. I am so glad I double-checked this and went with my gut feeling. However, I wonder how many women wouldn't want to make fuss or simply would have just trusted the pharmacists?
