'Breakthrough' bleed

Last year chemo put me into menopause. I had 3 periods in 2018, the last being October 2018. Nothing since then.
In Jan /Feb this year I started Evorel Sequi patches which were great. They put an immediate end to hot flashes and aching joints. As we all know, patches are rarer than hen's teeth, so last month the GP moved me over to Femoston 10.
The whole time I was using patches there was no breakthrough bleeding at all. Now, half way through the second cycle of Femoston, I appear to be having the period from hell. Serious cramps, proper tampon and pad worthy bleeding. I thought a breakthough would be a bit of light spotting and no more.
Does anyone know if this is normal or should I see the GP? I thought that and end to periods was a small silver lining from having cancer! So this is v annoying

Don't worry- what's happening is normal.

If you are using a sequi type of Femoston (as you were with Evorel), a 'withdrawal' bleed is programmed into the pack / patch/ regime. That's what sequential is= it follows a cycle the same as a normal menstrual cycle.

You were in a minority not to have a withdrawal bleed with the patch ( 20% or something women don't but most do.)

The withdrawal bleed comes approx 3-4 days after the previous pack, so maybe yours is a bit late, but it's normal.

Breakthrough bleeding is odd spotting at any time.

If you've got a leaflet in your packs of femoston it should explain the bleed regime there- otherwise google and it'll be online.

Apologies if you are using continuous Femoston (not sure if that exists!)

I'm going through menopause, what's a breakthrough bleed? Something else for me to look forward to? This is just the gift that keeps giving Hmm

Many thanks for putting my mind at rest Jingling

Moira I think it only occurs if you're on HRT. It's similar to the withdrawal bleed you'd have when taking the pill. A mini period (or supposed to be Hmm)
