How hard is it to get referred to a gynaecologist?

I'm really sorry to be graphic but I am 54 I had two small uterine pilots removed two years ago that were non cancerous. The lead-up to this was no periods then pink discharge or spotting or the odd very small bleed. After which all resolved. Now two years later things have started up again. Sometimes after (normal) sex (eg not rough sex) or other times for no reason I get bits of blood. I have not had a period since April. No hot flushes. I'm thinking I am in menopause. I had another ultrasound about five months ago that was normal. Went back to GP last week with more of the same and swab came back normal. Today I got a rush of cream discharge which is weird then tonight I wiped myself after a wee and the toilet paper had pink smears and what can only be described as weird 'debris' but on it. I was completely freaked out. Question: I have made yet another appointment with GP for next week. Surely they should refer me to a gynaecologist this time?? Even if recent ultrasound was normal? I know I'm sort of peri menopausal but I don't think this is normal. I might also add my most recent smear was two years ago and was normal. All thoughts welcome.

If you have had no periods for 12 months and now have some bleeding, however light, the 'rule' for GPs is to refer you for an ultrasound scan within 2 weeks. That's it- no ifs or buts.

However.... you have already had a scan only 5 months ago and your last period was April. Nothing serious will have happened in that time.

The risks of uterine cancer are there is 12 months or more have passed and then there is bleeding. That's not what you have had.

Relax- this is peri meno when anything can happen.

In all honesty you can't expect another 'look' at it all in such a short time.
It sounds like really short and light periods which can be all over the place- really short cycles or long ones.

IMO you do not need another referral as it would only be for the same thing or a scan plus hysteroscopy ( camera in uterus.)

ps the blood you get after sex may be because you are dry even if you don't feel that way! Also, vaginal atrophy as it's called Smile can produce a lot of discharge, ironically, but it's not 'good' discharge, it's down to loss of estrogen. The vaginal walls and tissues become very thin once estrogen falls (which it will have as you have not had a period for 6 months.) The treatment is estrogen cream used in the vagina so maybe use your GP appt for that.

@JinglingHellsBells thank you that all sounds very sensible. I'll keep an eye on things.
