Mid forties fatigue

I’m now mid forties and I think peri menopausal.Ive been putting my symptoms down to other things but I do think everything is pointing to a hormonal cause.

Is anyone else experiencing extreme fatigue? I muddle along for a while but then hit a wall of fatigue that leaves me crabby and just wanting a rest (I have a 7 year old ds so not an option!).

I’m almost 49. Interesting thread. I’ve got all of the above. I’ve suddenly felt very old / properly middle aged in the last 3 years; I put it down to stress from my divorce and the continued fallout.

I have no periods as I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago but still have ovaries. I wonder if I need HRT? Do you need a blood test first?

kingfisher90 · 18/09/2019 21:11

I’ve noticed this summer 9pm is way past bedtime. I need to lie down as my back is throbbing tonight.

PersonaNonGarter · 18/09/2019 21:14

I’ve stopped drinking alcohol more or less entirely because the exhaustion the following day was too much. I absolutely love not drinking now.

Get a blood test, I felt permanently knackered and my iron level was on the floor. Was put on tablets and within a week I felt significantly better and within 2 month I felt like Superwoman. Such a simple solution but it was genuinely life changing.

Aged 45 here. Mentally and emotionally exhausted. Physically low motivation but ok once doing stuff. Permanently pissed off with DP for not taking responsibility for things/generally not picking up after himself.
Went out to a gig on Saturday (loud band in a room in a pub). Got home at 12.30 or so; had 4 hours sleep after 5 drinks and fags. It took two days to recover not from a hangover but just the tiredness.

This post spurred me on to actually do something! Well, that and my mum saying that her friend has said going on HRT was like "coming out of a long dark tunnel". Had a Gp appointment this week, full set of blood tests coming this week, then a follow up with the GP the week after, where she said that (unless the tests show something else at play) she'd be happy to put me on HRT. I'm weirdly excited Grin

Tiredness. Sooo tired at the end of the day. I’ve also thought that I’ve just lost my stamina for FT work and am longing for retirement.
Aches - neck, shoulders, back, (elbows just started a few weeks back)
Weight around middle (and developing bingo wings after overindulging on an AI holiday this summer. I thought the weigt would come off once I was back eating normally - it hasn’t)
Bouts of irrational anxiety
Libido extremely low (all natural lubrication seems to be disappearing, as does my clitoris! Shock. Honestly looks like it’s getting smaller!!
Thinning hair on head. Hair now growing in nostrils. Hmm
Weak bladder. And can’t keep gas in either. Blush
I don’t feel I do things very efficiently. Eg I used to be able to whizz round the house cleaning and tidying and now I just sometimes sit and think “god, I don’t know where to start.” It’s like it all feels too overwhelming, and I start stuff but don’t finish.
Memory problems. I saw a woman in the distance at Tesco tonight and it took 4 hours to remember where I knew her from.
I work in a school and keep forgetting all the kids’ names. And sometimes the teachers’! “Go to Mr Thingy’s room, er, wotsisface......”
My teeth seem to have gone crap. Sensitive. Decay starting more easily.
I haven’t started with hot flushes yet, thank god, like everyone in work. But I think my list is long enough. It’s quite a biggun...hadn’t realised!

I was deficient in iron a while back, put on tablets and that sorted out the walking through treacle feeling, the hair lossx the dizziness and tinnitus. But I’m wondering if it’s starting to go low again.

Periods still ok. Ish. I’m still having them. Could be 25 days, could be 48.

It probably IS perimenopause, isn’t it?

romany4 · 26/09/2019 18:49

I'm 47 and knackered! Really noticed it this year.
I'm very impatient, my fanny itches a lot ( no thrush) or just feels sensitive, aching neck and my left shoulder is agony, disturbed sleep, hot at night, brain fog, I stumble over my words, intolerant to alcohol, period headaches. I could go on. It's shit.
But it's not forever....

ILikeyourHairyHands · 26/09/2019 18:55

Ah yes Vanguard, struggling for words, it's terrible, I'm usually extremely articulate, but I keep finding myself mid-sentence trying desperately to think of words I use commonly.

I hate it, it makes me feel like an absolute dullard.

I'm also very hot. Constantly.

Nearly 46.
