42, DM with osteoporosis but DF with heart attacks - me with migraines - what do I need to know about HRT or alternatives?

Clueless here, I’ve tried wading through Menopause Matters and the Migraine Trust but I’m not getting very far - before I go into my GP with my missing periods, weight gain, aching hips/knees/shoulders and hot flushes can anyone point me in the direction of info (or are you in a similar situation and know what the docs might recommend?)

I take a daily preventative for the migraines but am worried my bones may crumble like DM’s as I’m already aching like a bastard but know they wouldn’t prescribe the combined pill as DF had heart attacks relatively young.

Thanks for any advice Flowers

HRT protects against heart disease! You need it with your family history and osteoporosis is often hereditary.

Osteoporosis does not show through aching bones. It has no symptoms except a fracture usually at a young age, typically 5-10 yrs after last period. Aching bones are more likely to be loss of estrogen to your joints.

HRT is not The Pill. It's a lower dose and it's natural hormones. I don't even know why you were refused the Pill based on your dad's heart attack, I thought they said the risks of being pregnant outweighed blood clots in young, non smoking, non-obese women?

Right, thank you for the info re osteoporosis, Mum always connected her aches and pains with it and blamed and so I assumed it was part of the process - she has early stage Alzheimer’s (a whole new learning curve) now so I’m trying to patch together what I remember from my teens.

Also I’m not sure if they took my migraines & DF’s heart attacks and said no to the combined pill as too risky but it gives me a place to discuss from with my GP who is very brusque and dismissive (I was repeatedly given codeine for migraines and told I was just a tired mum rather than referred on, despite not wanting painkillers and not being able to function normally)
