Hi, sorry this maybe a long post. I don't know if anyone has experienced this but as you would expect I am concerned about the next couple of weeks. I on the 2ww pathway for a biopsy to check why I have been having pink/brown vaginal discharge on and off for the last few months bit like spotting lasts for a few days, stops and then restarts. I have seen my GP and had a pelvic scan. The results from the internal scan are that the lining of my womb is thickened but nothing else seen. Unfortunately I am just 54, overweight (bmi over 30) with a history of PCOS. From what I have read the prognosis doesn't seem great and wondered (as I dont have any close female relatives to ask/consult) if any of you lovely Mumsnetters had any positive experiences of this to share.

Thanks for reading id you've got this far.

TIA

It's not usual to have a biopsy like this unless you are post menopause. Bit puzzled why GP has actioned it .

I understand it's worrying but you have had good news so far with the scan results.

Yes of course your lining may be thicker, because you are not post menopause and the lining is responding to your estrogen levels.

Usually this spotting occurs because the cycle (periods) is incomplete. The lining builds up but as no ovulation occurs, you don't get the progesterone part of the cycle, which triggers the bleed . So the lining gets thicker.

I don't think you should stress over the diagnosis until you have one. You have already been told it all looks ok on the scan, so the odds are it's normal peri menopausal thickening. You certainly shouldn't jump to the conclusion that you have cancer.

However if all is okay, maybe work on weight loss because risk factors for endometrial cancer do include being overweight, and infrequent cycles (with PCOS.)

JinglingHellsBells also thank you for taking the time and effort to give such a comprehensive response. You have explained some things that I was not aware of and I really appreciate it.
