It's 12 months since my last period so I think I am now officially menopausal or post-menopausal or something (can't find a definitive distinction between them.)
Recently I've had:
anxiety
flash sweats
lethargy and indifference
mood swings from rage to tearfulness
brain fog
racing heart

I really need not to have all these. If I start HRT will they disappear?

I had all of those apart from racing heart. I’m at the end of my 2nd month of HRT and all of them have gone apart from still feeling a bit low when I take the progesterone part. But even that low mood is a vast improvement on life without HRT

JinglingHellsBells · 23/07/2019 07:07

Yes. probably :)

But you will get the best improvement if you combine HRT with lifestyle improvements - healthy diet, no booze, little sugar and a lot of exercise.

Hah- @JinglingHellsBells - do you know me from other threads? I need to listen to your advice and drink less. I exercise a bit every day but my job is sedentary, so I could do more.

No I've not seen you on other threads :)

This is quite a good diagram re risks of HRT and lifestyle.

HRT plus booze is a real risk factor, so bear in mind!

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells.

Not sure I'm a good bet for HRT. I have stomach problems already (ulcers) and fatty liver - not from drinking to excess, but I do drink small amounts frequently. Sounds like oestrogen only would not be a good idea. And combined does increase the risk if you are overweight. I need to lose weight first and then try it, I think.

@growlingbear Estrogen-only HRT is only for women who have had a hysterectomy.

Confused why you say it would not be a good idea (estrogen only)? It's safer- 4 fewer cases of BC compared to the general, non-HRT population.

growlingbear · 23/07/2019 16:26

I read that it can have problematic side effects if you have stomach or liver issues, both of which I do.

Not really. There are lots of ways to use HRT. Anyone with stomach issues ought to use types that are not pills- so that's patches or gel.

Many women use HRT and never ever swallow a pill.

I have stomach issues! I have Barrett's oesophagus and gastritis and am on HRT, I have a mirena coil for progesterone and evorel patches for oestrogen and am getting on marvellously with them, in fact I would go as far as to say that being on hrt has had a positive effect on my digestive issues.
