I was on Tibolone for a couple months but it didn’t suit me. I feel better on a cyclical type of
I think that Tibolone is used mainly for postmenopausal women.

MrsGaryLightbody · 22/07/2019 13:22

I'm on it , post M . Been taking it for about 6 years. It was the only one I tried ( and I tried a lot) that stopped the night sweats and facial flushing during the day. ( unless I drink wine Hmm)

Tibolone is not standard HRT; it's synthetic mix not body-identical estrogen and progesterone. It's not suitable for perimenopause.

Some GPs seem to prescribe it as a 1st choice but the reality is, it's rather a special kind of HRT mainly for women who can't use other types. Often used if someone has heavy bleeding as it stops periods or has other medical issues.

Why have you been offered it?

Thankyou for the replies
Gynaecology put me on it as first they were treating me for pmdd but they sideaffects of that only happen in the last 14 days so they have now said it's not that as my symptoms are constant. I have regular periods a lot shorter now tho 3 days rather than 7 - hot flushes all the time especially at night really bad anxiety, nerves etc I'm only 36 so they given me this option to try and I'm back in 2 months. I have an imbalance and suffer with migraines although this can make migraines worse but I can stop it

I don't really understand Confused

Are you having an early menopause or were you treated for Premenstrual depression?

Sounds as if you need normal HRT if you are having an early menopause - or at least symptoms of it.

minime01 · 22/07/2019 22:13

Sorry I just read it back and it didn't make much sense
I was originally being treated for premenstrual dysphoric disorder For a year until I finally found someone that would listen to me after one hell of a crap year. Now they saying to try this medication as will definitely help with hot flushes until all my bloods come back. They didn't really believe me until I broke down last week and finally started some kind of treatment - I still feel like I'm being fobbed off, as I'm having periods still they don't entertain much

Oh my God! The pmdd fob off. I had dreadful pmdd for years - wrecked my career. I had to fight for referral - eventually found a specialist at Addenbrookes - had pellets injected in belly monthly to switch hormones off. That triggered the menopause. Then I was put on the combined HRT- which started the progesterone horrors all over again - no sleep, migraines, the worst anxiety you can imagine, compulsive eating, suicidal thoughts the lot. So then they switched me to oestrogen only with progesterone for 12 days out of 90. Better, but still full horror show for 3 weeks at a time. Then had an unexplained bleed. Had hysteroscopy and they fitted a coil at the same time, in the hope that non-systemic progesterone would be ok. WRONG! It was dreadful. GP had to remove it after 4 weeks as I was having terrible reaction to the progesterone. So then one gynae said it's time for me to have a full hysterectomy. But another has suggested tibolone. I picked them up today. Going to start tomorrow. I'm a bit scared because I've been so much better being on oestrogen only HRT. I understand it's not hrt per se, but am concerned that it mimics hormones - oestrogen and testosterone (yes please) and progesterone (NO THANKS!)
