Early menopause?

Hi. Looking for advice before I go to the doctors. I'm 39 and for the last 5/6 months have been getting bad mood swings and the last 2/3 months feeling really down and not myself, also excessively tired. My periods are still regular but very light. I've been getting hot flushes for a while which I can handle, it's just the moods that are really getting to me. I've heard of the magnets that can help but what else do people recommend? My mum started menopause at the same age

Hi, i also started menopause early, had alot of symptoms like you and wondered if it could be the start, although i was only 38 at the time. Everyone kept saying no way, i was too young etc. After a few blood tests it confirmed i was going through menopause, my period had stopped for 11 months.... then started again on the 12th month 🙄 so had to go another 6 months without a period before i was started on HRT. I tried without, but was told i needed it for my bones as i was younger than normal. I was also quite gratefull as the hot flushes and night sweats were horrendous!!! I have been on patches for about 8 months now, so far so good, only downside i have experienced lately is extreme tiredness. Frightened to sit down or i fall asleep!! Not sure if this could be patches causing this?? Before i got patches i tried a few things and i have to say Menopace tablets worked best for me. Tried sage, black cohosh etc, but meonopace worked best. When that started to die down i got menopace max, then when that died down i went to docs. Hope this helps!! Its like a book 😂😂 and i could carry on. Theres so much to know and learn about menopause, its not just a case of sailing through it unfortunately!!x

@StarB3
early menopause (before age 45) is a recognised medical condition. It needs HRT up to age 50-ish at least. This is to protect you from risk of heart disease and brittle bones later in 10 years time or longer.

You need to see your GP and if they can't be supportive, ask for a referral to a meno specialist.

Please don't waste money on magnets. They don't work. You need to replace estrogen, it's that simple!

You're in peri-menopause and it can last for years. HRT is a lifesaver and I highly recommend it. Here's a really great article about peri-menopause you should read...

Go to the doctor and get tested for the menopause, do not let them say no.

Otherwise you will end up like me, early menopause and I now have osteoporosis due to them not letting me have HRT when I asked for it.

Thank you for the replies. I just feel so awful all the time. I'm not myself. I will go to the doctors who will hopefully help

5 years of hormone replacement therapy is safe and effective. Don't suffer. At 39 you have a busy life and need all the help you can get to continue to function well.

Emerald13 · 21/07/2019 19:21

I am in the same boat, early meno at 41 and 2 years on hrt. Don’t suffer and don’t accept no hrt as an answer! We absolutely need it and it considered safe nowdays.

StarB3 · 21/07/2019 19:45

Well I definitely need something! Thank you guys

@birdonawire1 @StarB3

The 5 years 'counting' starts around age 51 ( age of average menopause).

The use of HRT in women under 50-ish doesn't 'count'. It's simply replacing what ought to be there at that stage of life.

And after 5 years (from age 50-ish) there is no cut-off point. It's down to individual risks v benefits and preferences.

Tibolone is not standard HRT; it's synthetic mix not body-identical estrogen and progesterone.

Some GPs seem to prescribe it as a 1st choice but the reality is, it's rather a special kind of HRT mainly for women who can't use other types. Often used if someone has heavy bleeding as it stops periods.

Why have you been offered it?
