Who’s awake? I’m five hours post total hysterectomy 😬

Is anyone awake to keep me company? I had a total hysterectomy this evening and am lying here, struggling to sleep with all the beeping going Sad

I am SO glad it’s finally done, but I am also SO scared of blobbing out over the next few weeks through lack of exercise. I made sure I was as fit as possible pre-op, but am still worried as I have always had a weight issue.

Anyone awake to send me positivity?

I'm still up, just about. Wishing you all the best with your recovery. Get as much rest as you can & make sure you don't try to do too much, too soon. You'll be back exercising before long, but indulge yourself now if you want to. My SIL had the same operation a few months ago & she's fighting fit & full of energy again now. Hope you manage to get some sleep Flowers

Oh babe... I had one 12 years ago. Best thing ever!!! Can’t say I have ever regretted putting my uterus in the bin!!! Don’t know if you have had full or partial, but you will feel physically better much sooner than they say you will!

pleasehelpmewithmydilemma · 10/07/2019 01:19

I’ve had the full works, so now have forced menopause to contend with. My poor husband Grin I am so happy it’s done, just underestimated the pain. I’ve got really bad hay fever, so sneezing is agony Angry.

I’m wide awake after snoozing all evening. But it’s fine as I’ve got weeks to catch up on my sleep Smile

Oh wow, hope you’re not in too much pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the op part Flowers

justilou1 · 10/07/2019 04:22

Hold a pillow over your tummy when you sneeze. It helps.

midsummabreak · 10/07/2019 04:34

🌈 Hope you get some sleep and take it easy ovsr your recovery. I would imagine you will have or can ask for hormone replacement medication to ease the symptoms from sudden onset of menopause.

grincheux · 10/07/2019 04:45

I'm here, sending smiles from one hospital to another Smile I hope you drift off to a lovely sleep very soon. Are you as comfy as you can be?

Noteventhebestdrummer · 10/07/2019 04:49

Ask for lots of pain relief - when you get home brandy in hot water helps!

MadamBatty · 10/07/2019 05:40

I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago, best thing ever. Don’t worry about blobbing out. You need rest to recover. You’ll be feeling better in no time. Wishing you a speedy recovery & hrt.

Get DH to bring in some antihistamines . And don't worry about "blobbing out" , just think about how much better life is going to be without your uterus. Heaven I had it done at 35 and I never looked back. Don't worry about the "forced menopause" - it doesn't happen immediately, it just sort of creeps up. I started taking HRT about 6 months later and it was great. I hope you can get some sleep ZZZzzzzz

Birdie6 · 10/07/2019 05:42

That should read "Heaven ! I had it done...."

Morning ladies Smile

Early morning wake up to drug me up and empty my catheter. I’ve dozed on and off and been surprisingly comfortable actually.

The nurses here are all angels and have been brilliant with me overnight, even bringing me a cup of tea at 3am.

DH will be in after rush hour and then he will bring DD back after school.

#Day 1 of new me starts today Grin

You sound perky today, pleasehelp Grin Glad you got some kip.

When will they let you out, do you think?

londonmarathonhalfwaypoint · 10/07/2019 23:11

You’re doing great. You’ve had a major trauma - look after yourself. Good luck with your recovery Flowers

megletthesecond · 10/07/2019 23:13

You won't blob out. I had the same worry after my op and was at the gym, very gently, 12 weeks later.
Let your body heal now Flowers. It's not a race.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 10/07/2019 23:16

So glad you hear you slept well and are comfy. I had the best total hysterectomy several years ago - literally, no pain. Out within 16 hours, home, dressed, fine! Stayed home for 2 weeks but really was just fine. I felt like such a faker staying off much longer!

Now don't do as I did. Enjoy being pampered and the rest. You may even get some nice weather to enjoy - imagine, a nice book, cold drink, sunshine.

All good Flowers

ozymandiusking · 10/07/2019 23:17

Word of advice, when you go to the loo for a poo, put your hand over your vulva and vaginal opening and support them quite firmly.

justilou1 · 10/07/2019 23:38

Ps - I was 32 when I had mine and didn’t put on any more weight. I felt better and had more energy, so I lost some once I healed up. I had a partial hysterectomy and am 47 and going through menopause now. (yippeekiyay.....)

pleasehelpmewithmydilemma · 11/07/2019 10:50

I’m going home today GrinGrin

I feel like a hot air balloon, bloated and full of wind. Quite glad I’m in a room of my own, and going home will just see me getting revenge on 27 years of fartiness from DH!!

I’ve got to be taught how to inject myself with the blood thinners that I’ll need for a week.

But home is looming.......

All the staff here have been absolutely amazing and I literally cannot thank them enough Star

Great news OP.

Peppermint tea is good for the gas. The next few weeks are about you & your recovery. You need to really look after yourself & you’ll be back to full health.
