Menopause/ HRT tablets versus patches

We know there is risk of breast cancer with tablets.

Does patches provide you the same as tablets ? Both hormones

Your feedback what you are using? Tablets or patches which I believe is the safer solution

I use tablets cause I find them more convenient. I think that there is no difference regarding breast cancer risks.
Patches considered safer for blood clots not for breast cancer risks based on my understanding.

@novofem
There is no difference at all.

HRT consists of two hormones. Estrogen and a progestin.

Pills and patches contain these, often exactly the same types.

The research shows that it is the progestin that causes cancer, not estrogen.

It doesn't matter how this hormone gets into your body, either through your mouth or your skin.

Patches are safer re blood clots. That is the only difference.

If you are worried you might like to look around various sites written by doctors.

Menopause Matters- read the blogs by Dr Currie- and My Menopause Doctor- the site of dr Louise Newson.

This may answer your question. In paragraph 7 there is information about types of HRT.

Anyone out there on Evorel Conti patches?

I don't know what I was expecting but I dont really feel much different. Still crappy.

I'm 51 and not had a period now for a couple of years. I have had no bleeding and just slightly tender breasts occasionally.

Been taking them for about two months almost and GP has advised that I give it another month then review. I have to renew my prescription near the end of the month and then go away on holiday. I suppose I was hoping I'd feel a lot better by now.

Mood swings are awful. When low I feel terribly low and exhausted. I also look exhausted as still waking 3am ish every single night, then having to get up for work at 6.
I'm snappy a lot. I suppose the hot flushes have subsided a bit though.

Should I perservere?

I have just started Evoral Conti, cant say i am keen, the first 2 days i had the runs, and some bloating, had the runs again last week, i know it is these as i never have anything like this, usually very constipated
I was on Livial before these and preferred them, no side effects at all, but my hair has started falling out, and although i was worried it was the livial, now i don't think so, as had them a few years ago, and no problems at all
Also worried more hair might fall out as one of the side effects with these say hair loss
I do seem to have more energy as i was feeling quite lethargic, but at the same time not sleeping well on them
I now think my hair loss was possibly down to a lot of stress
I will give them the 3 months trial though ,as it might take so long to start making a difference

I'm 50, and on Evorel patches. I've had a total hysterectomy.

I tried tablets and couldn't get the dose right. 2mg made me anxious and 1mg wasn't enough so couldn't sleep.

Evorel start at 25 and go up to 100. I tried 75 and again it was too much and 50 has been great for me.

I also stopped the tablets as I'm overweight and I was worried about clots etc. Apparently there is a lower risk with patches.

HRT is trial and error too get right. I imagine your dose isn't high enough if you still feel rough , so I'd try a higher patch.

princessTiasmum · 11/07/2019 10:06

Just wondered is Evoral Conti a high dose or low, was previously on Livial, which i preferred but seemed to make me sleepy. ok at night but sleepy in day,is EV, C higher dose

bringbacksideburns · 11/07/2019 19:46

I'm sure GP said there wasn't another dose higher.
Will give it a few more weeks.

I went for the patches because I used to get bad cramp and leg pain on the pill and my circulation isn't great. I thought best to steer away from an increased risk of blood clots/ DVT using the tablets.

Nat6999 · 11/07/2019 20:06

I use Evorel patches but don't change them twice a week, I keep one on until I get the hint of a hot flush, then change it. I only use them to avoid the flushes, i go in phases, i can go for ages without a patch & no symptoms, then the flushes start so I put a patch on, I also take Evening primrose oil & Starflower oil capsules.

dementedma · 11/07/2019 20:12

Evorel conti patches here. They are fine. Still get the occasional flush which I didn't get at all with tablets, but otherwise ok.

princessTiasmum · 12/07/2019 15:07

Nat don't you get muddled up about what days you should change them on, ? or it affect you?
