CBD Oil for Peri Muscle Pain?

Hiya

I was wondering if anyone has had any success using CBD Oil for muscle tightness/pain?
I have been on HRT for the past 3 years. I started on oestrogel followed by patches in the first year (neither of which worked for me, sadly) then went onto tablets which worked brilliantly for a while but have stopped working too it seems. I'm booked into see a consultant gynaecologist soon but not sure what she will say as am on the maximum dosage already.
I'm sure that the pains in my back/neck are linked to low oestrogen because they were bad at the start of perimenopause then went away completely when the tablets were working. They've been back for the past 4 months accompanied by the sweats/low mood etc.
Obviously I'll wait until after my appointment but just doing a bit of finding out. I can cope with most of the peri symptoms but being in near constant pain is driving me crazy. I'm trying physio, stretching, yoga, lots of water, healthy eating/low-sugar, mindfulness, magnesium, Vitamins D3 etc etc. Hate using painkillers... Has anyone used CBD oil successfully or is it just the latest turmeric?

My gut feeling is that if you are using HRT for your pain, it's not the right treatment.

I think you need to treat the two things separately. If you are having sweats etc it sounds as if you need more estrogen or a different route. Did you go up to 4 pumps of gel? which progestin are you using with it?

Tablets are poorly absorbed. You'd be far better off with gel or patches.

Why not ask for a referral to a neurologist? have you ever had an X ray of your neck? How do you know it's not a disc problem for example, or a nerve issue?

How old are you and how far into peri? You need an X ray because worst case this could be osteoporosis in your spine, rheumatoid arthritis, or anything else!

Hiya

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I don't know... you're right.
I suppose it could also be something like Fibromyalgia as the pain tends to move around between back/hip/neck so quite variable. I do have sciatic pain at times. It's just interesting that it came on in my mid 40s for the first time along with other meno symptoms then went away almost completely when my oestrogen was being replaced properly (although occasional cyclical blips when own oestrogen dipped). It has now reappeared along with my symptoms which are pretty much ongoing at the moment. Seen Osteopath and Physio who both say it's muscular problem. Physio suggested that there are oestrogen receptors in your muscles which are affected when levels are low. Both think it's linked to weak pelvic floor/ poor posture from work too but that the perimenopause is exacerbating things. All I know is am in pain and I want to sort it! May go back to GP to discuss.
You're right in saying that the tablets are meant to be less well absorbed in folk - the doctor did say that. However, I used the highest dose of gel previously and that didn't really work either. Even had a (probably pointless) blood test which confirmed my oestrogen levels were "under-replaced" despite being on maximum number of pumps for several months. I have the Mirena as was recommended by initial consultant as being the safest option. That's up for 4 year review soon and I know not everyone rates that as the best means of delivery progesterone. Am puzzled as to why my body is being so bloody awkward! Smile

Oh... just seen. Am 50 and am about 4 years in. Have had an MRI about three years ago which was all fine at the time. However, will go back. Thank you!

I guess the main question is why you don't appear to absorb transdermal estrogen.
Has anyone suggested why?

Were you applying it correctly? (Right sites, right amount, correct application - ie smoothing not rubbing, over a large area, not using other body cream etc at same time.)

The Mirena is considered safe BUT it does allow a low level of progestin into your system- doesn't all stay in the womb.

I think if I were you I'd try without the Mirena and switch to a sequential type of HRT to see how it feels when you just have estrogen and cyclical progestins. At 50 you are quite young for continuous combined as it's usually only given to women 1- 2 years post meno or over 54 .

GinJeanie · 27/06/2019 14:08

I know... it doesn't really make sense to me! The consultant didn't seem to know why transdermal hadn't worked a few years ago - just said it's one of those things.
Am very tempted to have the Mirena out and give the gel another try (with sequential) as I reckon I have nothing to lose and it's the only combination I haven't yet tried. Tablets at highest dose have stopped working. Although I'm still taking them until my appointment, I think my days on them are numbered for obvious reasons! Even if it doesn't help with aches and pains it'll hopefully address my thermostat.
Thanks again - you've been very helpful.
