Is this menopause related stuff?

Over the last year my periods have gone from being regular to all over - I miss one, then get one that lasts ages, then go three weeks and get another, etc. I’m mid-40’s.

Over that time I’ve also started getting weird symptoms, random pins and needles, either a hand for a foot, never both. Awful moods like the world has come to an end, big whooshes of anxiety. And the worst is that I’ve started having aura migranes every week, sometimes more often, whereas all my life I’ve had them very rarely. They are so debilitating I think the migraines alone are making me anxious waiting for the next one. I also feel knackered constantly but can’t get to sleep.

Anyway what I’m wondering is if all this random weird stuff is perimenopause related? I have no female relatives to ask who would have been through it. I have menopause-age friends but none of them get migraines or tingly numbness.

Does this ring any bells with anyone? I feel like I’ve gone from being a healthy happy person to somebody who struggles to function normally sometimes Sad. And i admit some of the symptoms frighten me - thanks to my google habit,

I’m seeing my GP alot and she has recently prescribed amitriptyline for the migraines - she doesn’t seem concerned about the weird symptoms which I suppose should put my mind at rest, but it doesn’t! I haven’t started the amitriptyline yet btw...

Sounds like hormone fluctuations/ peri menopause is likely possible - sorry!!!

Suffered with migraines as a teen and then they've come back, periods irregular so on and so on Sad

Don’t be sorry Random! Can I ask how often you get migraines and how you manage them?

I just feel so weird all the time Sad! It’s hard to even describe.

Used to get one a year recently one every couple of weeks. Take pain relief when the visual aura starts and go to bed...

Worth speaking to your GP about the symptoms collectively just in case with the tingling occurring as well.

Migraines and headaches are commonly reported menopause issues, it was one of the first symptoms I had alongside weird periods - I didn't start getting the very obvious hot flushes until months later.

Interestingly, I was reading something the other day that said women experience migraines something like twice or maybe more often than men, but that there was an uptick in them in both sexes around mid-40s so maybe menopause plus something else with human aging causes them. It's hard to know.

For me so far the only thing I've found to work is taking painkillers the moment I notice the starting feelings and rest. It makes it a bit easier, but it's a struggle.

I'm mid 40s and have experienced most of what you describe over the last 12 months. Only one episode (thankfully) of aura migraine - full on flashy colours which was very weird. Then random few weeks of the intermittent pins and needles / numbness when I convinced myself I had MS which has now disappeared. Few episodes of the most painful tender breasts (worse than mastitis). Certainly moody and anxious on and off too. Currently ridiculously constipated ☹️, not sure if that's a peri menopausal treat too. Fun isn't it!

Migraines definitely. Avoiding coffee and paramol or solpadeine to ease them. I don't get auras. The rushes of anxiety calmed incredibly by Pilates.

Yep had most of those symptoms I’m Peri-m and been on HRT for 18mgs, mid-40s. I tried amitriptyline for an unrelated back issue but stopped taking it after few days as I just felt utterly out of it. It’s s anti-depressant but used for nerve related pain I was advised. I stuck with physio and exercise to ease my back issues, with regular pain meds. I’d explore all options, including diet, exercise and supplements as no one “fix” for all I’m afraid. I only twigged a lot of my problems were menopausal linked because my sister is 5yrs older and was going through hell with it...
