Dr Rosemary Leonard, says Vagifem can make the lining of the womb thicken and lead to abnormal cells, and are safe for 2 years, unless progesterone is used with them, not just vagifem but any oestrogen used in the genital area ,
A bit worrying when we are told these are safe to use forever

@princessTiasmum

That quote you have posted is out of date and it's been replaced by more up to date knowledge. The latest advice is there is no need for a course of progestins unless a woman has bleeding (in which case it would be investigated anyway.)

See the link below which explains this (paper published 2014.)

Dr R Leonard is in fact 'only' a GP and spends most of her time as a journalist . She's not a specialist so I'd be wary of anything written by someone who isn't.

JinglingHellsBells thank you for the update, but women are still reading that
I was just looking for something else on gransnet and came across it

Sadly, a lot of information on menopause is out of date .

If women are really interested, they need to do more research and not just look at columns in women's mags, unless the quotes are from some of the UK menopause specialists. (I am in the media and know who to turn to for quotes if I need them. There are around four meno consultants I'd ask who are bang up to date.)

As a new user of Vagifem (12 weeks in), I found that an interesting and reassuring link JinglingHellsBells, thank you.
