Sertraline for hot flushes

Does it work for the flushes? How long does it take to take effect? Any known side effects? I would rather not take it, but am battling against a brick wall to get HRT!

Thanks

Keep battling!, unless you are depressed you do not need antidepressants you need to replace lost oestrogen and the only way you can do that is with HRT. Print out a copy of the nice guidelines and take them along to your GP with section that states best practice for meno symptoms is HRT and antidepressants should not be prescribed. If you have no joy change your GP or insist on a referral to a meno specialist.

some anti-Ds can help with hot flushes but I don't think that sertraline is one of them.
Speak to your GP.

This battling to get HRT is so crazy!

Why has your GP refused it?

As PP says you can print off and quote the NICE guidelines (for GPs!!!)

You need to go in and say you want to try HRT and unless there is a sound medical reason why you can't have it, you understand it will help.

If your GP refuses, consider changing GPs and getting rather cross with them for denying you effective and safe treatment.

What on earth are their reasons for saying 'no' to you?

In going to cry jingling ( and everyone else and I never cry!) They just won’t because of the breast cancer. None of them, I’ve been to ALL THE PARTNER GPS. They say it is unethical to prescribe with a history of BC. My only hope is the private GP who may prescribe, as the oncologist says it’s ultimately my decision ( even though he would prefer me to take SSRI’s!

What if I change surgery and face exactly the same response?

Sorry to jump in, but I think sertraline is causing my hot flushes! I can literally wring my jamas out when I wake in the middle of the night :( so it might not be a magic fix!

Whats the point of battling with them? The dark thoughts are seeping through along with the can't be bothered . They have got what they want.

I've sent you a PM.

I am on sertraline for menopausal related anxiety. Believe me it does nothing for hot flushes - in my experience anyway.

peaceand · 25/06/2019 22:37

My dp is on them and he's been complaining of hot flushes and heating up.

At night he's the worse, legs are covered in sweat. It may depend on the dosage.
Also my dp mother wasn't allowed them because of MS but new doctors have said yes.
