Hi Ladies. I'm just wanting to talk to a group of women who can relate and empathise with my as my GP has upset me! I'm waiting for surgery for a 11 cm fibroid, and am struggling with 3 weekly heavy periods, pain and discomfort nausea cramping etc. I have started HRT as I;m 51 and peri meno , with all the joys that brings : ). I was hoping this would regulate things however I started my period again at 21 days and its really heavy. I discussed this with my GP and mentioned I'm away for the weekend and don't want to go as tired, and will be looking for clean loos all weekend! Her response was "go, and enjoy it you're facing surgery later in the year" .I'm so upset at the lack of care and understanding! Does anyone else think that was harsh or am I over-reacting?

Wont they consider the Mirena coil for a few months till you have your operation? Or some drugs like Tranexamic acid to help the heavy flow?

Sonographer said due to its size and positioning - and the fact it hasn't got a stalk the best course of action was to see a gyne with a view to hysterectomy. Hrt prescribed to help with rest of symptoms. No other drugs were mentioned?

I was prescribed Tranexamic Acid for just that very problem. It helped a lot although i always felt that the bleeding was doubly bad when i stopped it. Then i had a hysterectomy and it all went away. Best thing i ever did. Could you call and ask if you have a nurse practioner you could see who might prescribe this medication for you?

Get the surgery as soon as possible. I had a womb full of fibroids and polips (spelling - sorry) No treatment worked for me and my periods were just plain awful for years (you name it my GP had to make sure I tried it - nothing worked), but after I had the surgery I have not had a period since. Life was amazing! Then I hit menopause - late 40s... I dont want to be too negative as there are women on here who dont want to hear this - and hopefully wont suffer - but OMFG my life is in bits!!

I feel for you, OP. I struggled with fibroids for 4 years. A period every 21 days, often lasting 9-11 days. Flooding, clots, anaemia...

I saw a lovely gynaecologist who prescribed a fibroid-removal op, and a Mirena coil. I bottled out!

Things got worse so I went back to my GP, saw a different gynaecologist and he suggested a fibroid-removal op, plus ablation of the womb lining, and a Mirena coil.

I had it done late last year and haven't had a period since. I had Googled the Mirena and been terrified by the bad reviews but it was the best thing I've ever done: the progesterone has definitely calmed me down, I feel normal again.

My gynaecologists both said that hysterectomy wasn't an option until we'd tried other things first. But I totally recommend what I had done.

Good luck. I'm really sorry you're suffering, it's awful.
